I found an Elan sewing machine on Craigslist for $25. I think I've seen this brand on older machines, but when I googled Elan I got nothin'. The machine is missing a foot pedal, so if I can't find the brand I doubt I'll be able to find a pedal. Has anyone heard of this brand??? (I'm hoping the guy made a mistake and it's an Elna but that would be quite lucky, so I'm not holding my breath!)

I would assume that is an Elna machine with a typo. Have an Elna serger I am very happy with, HTH.

I would very quickly contact the seller to find out if it's an Elna.

Thanks, you two.
I think it is an Elna Supermatic. I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow morning. I'll have to order a new cord, and I don't know if it comes with a case or cams, (he sent pics and they only included the sewing machine), but the reviews of this machine look good, and it look like I should be able to get parts on ebay and other places.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can start sewing on it by next week!

You three....I didn't see your post Yarndiva. I did, however, read your review and am now pretty excited to get the machine up and running!!!

Hopefully, you can start sewing on it just as soon as you can get your hands on a power cord.

I quickly looked through eBay and found none for sale. You might consider joining yahoo group(s) on vintage Elnas (if such a group exists), and post a "wanted: Elna Supermatic foot control," and see if a member is willing to sell one.

Just a word of caution: it will be hard to know the condition of the motor if you can't power up and run the machine before you purchase it.

If or when you do finally get hold of a foot control, then other issues might come up. More delay.

I suspect that you don't live in Gig Harbor. The drive here from Seattle is over an hour, which can amount to $20 in gas. Toll rates for cash customers is $4 now, or $2.75 if you have a Good to Go! sticker.

Still interested?

But if you are still interested in coming to my neck of the woods despite my word of caution, do send me a PM. I would love to meet up at the local quilt shop Harbor Quilt. I've been meaning to pay them a visit.

Can anyone say field trip to Gig Harbor??? Come on I know there are tons of you Seattlites, Tacoma...(ites)? and Puget Sounders! Lets go visit Poplin!!!

I met him in Tacoma (he came over). The machine has not been used in a very long time. (The needle is black). It will definitely need repair and cams and power/foot cord, case and.....probably a new friction thingy.....I think it will be a wonderful little machine once fixed up. It was his mother-in-laws, and apparently they are still going through her things. Hopefully they will find more parts and give me a call.

I do have another machine so I'm not worried to much about not being able to sew, but I am anxious to get this one up and running. I'm pretty excited!

Thanks for looking around for me!! I think I found a place that has most of what I need(fingers crossed, will not hold breath) The rest I'll have to keep an eye out on ebay, or goodwill.

I'll be sure to review the machine after it's up and running. And all you with infinite knowledge don't hesitate to speak up and share what you know!!

Congratulations on your new machine!! I just got one about two weeks ago and I do have a power cord and the knee control so I am sewing with it..Its fun and it definitly sounds different from my other machines..not loud or broken...just different..

Did you find a place locally for parts? I'm looking for cams for mine. If you are still stuck for a power cord, you might try White's Sewing..Scroll down the page and you will find the acessories listed..
Elna Parts
Also has a list of all the cams available and what the stitches look like..
Hope this info helps if you hadn't already found this site..
