I don't do machine embroidery. But I would KILL to have the needlecam, auto edgestitch, and stadium lighting! And the Xmas special at my dealer's is the Ellisimo with EVERYTHING included, from the extension table to the new circular thingie...for $6999 Canadian.

First I say nope, I really do not need another sewing machine...automatic 1/4" edgestitching???!!! I do a LOT of 1/4" edgestitching. Nope don't need a new sewing machine boy that needle cam is way cool I could really use that...

See how it's going?! Then I start thinking how I could sell all the extra machine embroidery bits, which would make the sewing machine part of the Ellisimo quite a good price...

No! No! No! I do not need a new sewing machine!!!

Must stay away from BL dealer next weekend. Must stay away from BL dealer next weekend. Must stay away...

Well Lynne as the happy new owner of Sam the serger, you are not getting another machine, but replacing Sam.

And I must say Sam has settled into my sewing room very nicely.

Before you decide you really do not like machine embroidery, take a look at the funky designs at Urban Threads

Now is that for enabling?

Hi Michelle! Hi Sam!

I'm so happy to hear he's doing well for you, I kept thinking I should ask you how it's going. Don't you just love the differential feed!

You're not s'pose to enable me, you know! You're supposed to be talking me OUT of doing something so daft as to spend that kind of $ on anything smaller than a car!

Now I'm off to view your link, you cruel evil person!

...oh %&$#. Look at all those gorgeous designs and how FAB would they be on some of the gazillions of solid-colour jersey t-shirts I sew...

Did I mention cruel and evil???!!

Can you ever really have too many sewing machines???? I think not. Do you need another machine, probably not. But my motto is: Life is Short; Work Hard, Play Hard. So my playing hard involves owning multiple machines so I can sew each evening after work. Besides we all have to do our part to boost the economy and if that means buying yet another sewing machine, so be it.

If you can afford it buy it. Life only happens once. Now don't buy it and starve or anything. Enjoy your new machine. You know already made the decison before posting and wanted us to enable you. Well consider yourself enabled lol.

Not sure about the babylock dealers in CA, but can tell you that here in the USA my dealers are offering interest free financing on machines that costly.. not that that should be a reason to buy the machine....not that you need a reason to buy a machine...Im just sayin..............

Why not buy your dream machine, since it has all the features you use all the time and sell off all your other machines to offset the cost of this one.

Any-who, it CHRISTMAS, the most wonderful time of the year to be wonderful to your wonderful self.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HO, HO, HO.

If that thinking fails, try the DEVIL MADE ME DO IT. I use this one too, a lot. Oh boy, am I a little enabler.

How does that work? The layaway thing? I've never done it and I'm SOOOO tempted.

While DH makes a really good living (at least, as good as anyone employed by Uncle Cheapskate, er, Sam), since we just bought a new (to us) house that's 20 years old, I'm too durned afraid to spend a huge wad of cash at one time (since THAT will be when we have to replace the water heater, A/C, etc). I'd LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to buy a really TOL machine on layaway ... I wouldn't feel so guilty then.

Do you have to plunk down a "down payment?" How long do you usually have to pay it off? I know each dealer will be different, but it'd be nice to know what's "usual!"

You'd need to contact the dealer(s) to find out if they offer layaway and what their terms are. I'm sure dealers are different. I think, but don't quote me on this, my dealer offers 90 days, with 10% or 20% down (I don't remember which), and they don't order the machine until the layaway has been completely paid off.

Interest free financing for x months is not a bad option if you are pretty sure you can have it paid off in the number of months they allow. If I'm not mistaken interest would accrue from the date you took out the loan and would be 'added' to your balance at the end of your free financing term. That's how I bought my Babylock Ellageo. It felt really good to be able to pay it off early and know that I didn't have to pay any interest on the loan.

Another option might be to open a special savings account and set aside money each month until you've saved enough to buy the machine. Print a pic of your dream machine and put it on your kitchen bulletin board (doesn't everyone have one?) as a reminder of what you are saving for. That can be a real motivator for you to keep plugging away. Having been through the experience of trying to pay off a huge loan in 12 months, this is what I would do if I had to do again.
