As one of the Burda-preview watchers on here, I just want to say that I'm being driven CRAZY by the new way they're doing previews. This may be temporary, since obviously they haven't finished their half-year-long switch over to a new format (no comment on that). But there are several annoying aspects:

-- The non-German sites are really not being updated anymore, from what I can tell. I assume this will be fixed eventually, but a couple of the language sites still feature December as the "new" issue, so I don't know why they don't just put a note on all the sites saying something like, "While we complete our switch to the new format, this site is currently not being updated. Please see the German site for the most recent information. Very sorry for the inconvenience."

-- The magazine previews on the German site, such as they are, are being released in little pieces. A couple of times recently I've posted information about a new preview, only to discover that it was merely one section of the preview. I actually think the full spring/summer Burda Style Plus preview and the February 2010 Burda Style (BWOF) preview may all BE on the website now -- but in little sections, spread all over the site. Good luck hunting them all down. I don't know if it's even worth it, because...

-- It seems that by the time the preview is all there, together, the new magazine is in the stores or in the mail.

I'm not happy about posting previews on PR and then discovering that people can't even see the whole preview without scanning through every inch of the German site. It's frustrating for you, and makes me feel a bit ridiculous. So I guess I'll have to re-learn the art of waiting until the magazine comes out to see what's in it.

I guess we could write to Burda about this, but honestly, from what I've seen lately, I think they must only have about two tech people, so it might not help.

In the past, I have found them responsive, though it took them a while (perhaps a language matter). I think that contacting them is always worth a shot.

There is a little note up now on the non German sites saying they have technical issues and are not updating the non-German sites.
Today they emailed me - in German - with some website update.
It is very annoying I have to agree.

Hi all!

If you go to the russian language BWOF site, you can preview the whole magazine!

I have vowed not to make baby clothes but I am may find myself coming back to this issue in a couple of years when Jakob is old enough for that adorable little jacket. Burda does have the best childrens clothing.
Hopefully Burda will fix their English site sooner than later. I still don't understand changing the name to Burda Style. It's so confusing when referring to the patterns.

Cool! Thanks for posting.

I really like the 50's tops and skirts. Lots of things there I would wear. Although we had snow yesterday, so it's still a little cold for a nice linen skirt!

Thanks very much for the link to the full photo preview (no drawings, but whatever). I'm still annoyed with Burda's technical team, though. Don't think I've never seen such a klutzy, drawn-out way of changing over to a new website format.

I guess it might be OK if they were to make the original "Burda Style" site just the hands-on/download/tutorial area of the main site, but as it is, it's still a confusing overlap.

Not that they asked me, but I think it would have been a better idea just to rename the site "burda.com" -- keep it simple, like Ottobre does. Forget the "aren't we cool/ we've inserted bits of English everywhere" thing.

I actually e-mailed them in German (my mother tongue) yesterday -- I find the new website everything but userfriendly -- e.g. you would not see for envelope patterns how many skirt patterns, how many dress patterns etc they offer. You see 3 pages of patterns and when you move to the third finding out there is a 4th, a 5th, ... very annoying to not know how much to expect. The true envelope patterns are also mixed with download patterns. I will certainly refrain from visiting their website if not absolutely necessary.

I also have been trying to draw their attention to you Ladies here on PR and that tzhe new site is not too much appreciated. No response yet, and I am not sure whether they'll come back at all.

Re: Burdas new way of doing magazine previews (posted on 1/16/10 8:46 PM ET)
All I want to know is how I can get an IT job with them! I would have been canned in 10 seconds if I had gone to any of my bosses with "this is beyond my control, maybe I can get it working in 30-60 days."
