Because I am lazy, I will not retype my whole dilemma here, but you can get all the good details here

Long story short, I have 2 weeks to make myself a 20s dress for this dance (where I will be one of 6 people at the center of attention). I think I've got a good starting point, just looking for some opinions and perhaps a little guidance. Thanks in advance ladies (and gentlemen). I always know who to turn to for help.

I think your plan is a good one! And I would definitely do the handkerchief hem if you have the time. Congrats on the honor, too bad it's got to add some stress but I'm sure you'll be thrilled when all's said and done!

I put off my work a little today so I could work on this and here's what I've got so far

I started draping the rose fabric just to make sure I wasn't crazy trying to use this print. The original dress has a cut and faced neck edge which I kind of want to avoid as it will be hard and will show in the chiffon. While draping I decided that I actually really like the cowl look for the front and back neck and DH agrees. What say you?

Gorgeous! It is so nice to be here on PR where people appreciate real vintage fashion. No multiple rows of drapery fringe.

I like the neckline, but in this pic it looks quite poufy over the tummy, which might not strike the silhouette you had in mind.

The fabric is lovely though! I couldn't tell the scale and now that I see it I think it's gorgeous.

Also: the muslin of the underdress bodice looks great, and comfortable.

I don't know if you have the time, but check this out and see if it helps. This was a great series and maybe the designs might help. Good luck on whatever you decide. Please post the results.

The shapes were simple-the beading was added for weight and swing as well as beauty- Later in the decade, godets and length were added-and pointed edges might have a tassel attached for the same purpose- a minor example pics Note the tassel on the point in the first pic- and on the sash in the 2nd.
Also- the long godets in some of the others- made in similar material to yours- I especially like the 2nd bottom photo- where they attached the bottom layers to a slip- making construction much easier- to achieve the look in this floaty fabric- HTH- Mary

I was just draping the fabric and toying around to make sure what I had in mind wouldn't look crazy on the body. While the top will be bloused a bit, it won't look nearly like that. It will have a sash or a band around the hips with just a hint of blousing over the top. This was just the material draped over the dressform and tied on at the hip with my measuring tape! Thanks for all the comments ladies! If you're interested, feel free to check out my blog, where I'll be posting the most progress.

What do you say ladies, bias cut the chiffon for the overlay? It won't do much of anything to the print, but I'm thinking it may make the cowl neck play a little nicer. The hip band is DEFINATELY going to be bias since I'll be doing a LOT of dancing in this dress and need all the movement I can get.

I think yes, especially since it's not structural in any way!

I was thinking of your dress today, I got a Vionnet book from the Library and there was a beaded dress that reminded me of what you're doing!! Keep us posted!
