Does anyone know where you can find twill tape in colors??? A jacket in the April Burda calls for 3/4" twill tape and they show it in a color to match the jacket fabric. I've never seen this before.

This place has a limited range but it's more than just black or beige: TwillTape.com.

You can try dying white twill tape too.

There are other things you can substitute for twill tape that come in colors. Wrights calls their product "Soft & Easy Hem Tape" and it comes in colors and works just the same. On the package it says for use as a stay strip which is all you really want, correct? In fact, now that I think of it I believe I read something recently(Threads?) about using a piece of selvage for this job- doesn't match any better than that.

Don't confuse accessibility with ease; just because anybody can pick up a needle and thread doesn't mean sewing quality garments is easy.

I have started using selvage in this manner. However, I just finished a sweatshirt with a kind of thermal weave backing. The selvage made it extremely bulky and I ended up having to rip it out and use regular twill tape. The first time this has happened, so it had to be the fabric's weave. Usually, the selvage is perfect in weight as well as color match.

JoAnn sometimes has pastels but are not cheap. I get black, beige and white from mail order company HomeSew.com ( much cheaper) They also carry various bias binding in denim and gingham checks for children.

I'll Have to check to see if the selvage will work. It is for the band next to the zipper and for the neck edge piping. Here is the jacket:

Or maybe it is the kitten I really want

What about using single fold bias tape?

Textile Fabrics in Nashville has twill tape in pretty colors. Not sure how narrow but I'm remembering a small display with 1" and maybe 1/2" or so tapes.

You could call and I'm sure they'd mail the tapes to you. I'm remembering the colors as soft more than dark.

Heidi:

I realized I had the same problem. After a lot of searching, I decided to abandon twill tape. I bought a lovely soft cotton/linen for the bindings, and a heavy brown "ribbon" to cover the zipper tape. Looking forward to seeing what solution you find!

Well, this is too late to be of use to Heidi Ho, but for what it's worth I get what is called "chair tape" from this source:

www.shakerworkshops.com

It's heavy (I use it for tote bag straps).
