I do not need any more sewing machines!

Having said that stopped at a thrift store today and they had an Arrow sewing machine in a suitcase. No price and I did not ask.

I do not need any more sewing machines.

The machine was all metal, appeared to be a straight stitch only machine, and had a knee lever, but no foot controller.

I am not sure if the knee lever was the power control or not.

No Manual, one extra metal bobbin, metal flat bed table included in the suitcase.

I really thought this was a cute machine, but I have no idea how you make it go without a foot control.

I have tried to find an image online, but cannot find anything.

I do not need another machine.

Very pretty vintage Arrow.

Here's an Arrow 770

Need has nothing to do with it.

HI Lynn,

I saw both those online, but neither are the machine I saw today.

I may check if it is still there next week and ask how much they want. If I can figure out how to make it run without a foot controller, (there was no place to plug on in that I could see), I may offer them $15.00 and see what they say.

This Arrow SM sold on Ebay for $242.00 in February. Any resemblance?

I agree need has zero to do with it. I didn't need the nice Dressmaker that jumped into my cart at the thrift store this weekend ($,10), nor will I need the pretty blue and white Universal I am going to look at in the next few days. I will have spent about $30 this week for the two.

I justify it by comparing going to a movie and dinner with a girfriend; dinner, at least $10, movie ticket at least $8.00, popcorn at least $4.00, soda at least $3.00...so for the few dollars difference which will give me more overall entertainment for my money? Yep, I skip the dinner and movie almost every time!

My mom's Pfaff 30, from the 1950s operates without a foot pedal. It is in a cabinet: you press on the knee lever, which is mounted inside the door frame, and it works like a foot pedal.

I never minded it growing up, but I do remember her occasionally complaining she would rather have had a foot pedal.

I don't know where you'd mount the knee lever without a cabinet.

I have decided to go back next week and if it is still there I will bring her home if the price is right.

The knee lever is in the same place the the presser foot knee lift on my current machine.

My Mum's old singer in a cabinet had the knee controller on the right hand side of the cabinet.

Oh well we will see what is up with it next week.

That's often how I assess many a purchase.

Need has nothing to do with it. I did not need the Singer 99k hand crankI bought last September, but I might if the electricity went out and I still wanted to sew.

I just finished reading about the vulnerability of the US power grid and how easily it could be incapcitated by our enemies.

My first thought (no kidding) was: ''Boy, I sure am glad I bought that Singer handcrank I didn't 'need'.''

(I should add I don't mean to make light of possible threats to the US. It is a real concern.)

I think we all often let fate determine our decisions on whether to buy something. That way when fate has determined we should buy it--usually bc it is still there waiting for us--we don't have to feel (as) guilty!

Susannah, that is a scary thought about the power grid. It will be hard to even get a glass of water with no water pumps working...yikes! ...I was talking to my hubby about handcrank sm, how do you sew when you cannot feed your project through with both hands? ....When I grew up I had a treadle but I could still use my hands for the most part. ...Hmmm I wonder how does it work?
