I'm hemming a knit t-shirt on my Brother coverstitch and now and again it will skip a stitch and consequently the whole thing pull out and I have to start over again. I'm not an expert on my coverstitch when it comes to the correct needles, etc. Any suggestions? This is so frustrating!

What type needle are you using? The ELx-705 needle system is made to prevent skipped stitches on coverstitch machines. The other thing to check is your threading; is it hanging up on anything? Rough spool edges? Caught on something? Is the antenna fully extended?

Just a word of caution, don't put the ELX-705 needles in the Brother machine.
HaleysComent, I've had my Brother six years and the only time my machine skipped stitches was due to me using the wrong needle. I really need more details to be able to help you. What fabric are you using? Type, weight, etc. What needles have tried (type and size) and what thread are you using? Also what settings are you using on the Brother?

My Babylock skipped recently when I didn't have the needle thread in the guide correctly and it didn't get threaded down into the tension area.

My BL skips stitches if my needles are too worn. Also, I used a performance knit (supplex) for some yoga clothing and got skipped stitches when using sz 80 needles. Switched to size 90 and had a beautiful stitch out.
Would recommend you post all your info as Sew4Fun suggested and see what other's can help with!

I also had skipped stitches and BL Coverstitcher was threaded correctly - in the loopers, tension disks, everything..... that is until I realized I had the threads going in opposite needles.

I had issues with skipped stitches on my Janome and it was definitely the fabric. I wasted 1/2 a yard on trying different tensions- what a waste. I ended up using stabilizer and it worked well. I wonder if the other needle would have helped?

Do you have serger thread in your looper? I had skipped stitches last week with my Coverpro 1000cpx , I changed the needles and it did not help, but when I threaded the looper with serger thread, it stopped skipping and worked great.. It works ok with the needles being threaded with reg sewing thread but the looper seems to have to have serger thread to avoid the skipped stitches.. Hope this helps.

I'm sewing a very lightweight polyester knit using Schmetz 80/12 needle and only using three threads each set at #4 tension. I'm not using serger thread but regular Gutermann thread. I have it threaded correctly, antenna up, new needle, etc.

Is there any lycra in your fabric? Also are you sewing with a wide or narrow coversitch? Sorry about all the questions but with so many vaiables it helps if I have all the details.
