So arianamaniacs led me to yoox.com where I am finding all sorts of cool clothes. (thanks!) I think I love this top: Marni top but would like opinions on the description. It says it has boning, but don't know where it might be. Do you think it is holding the pockets (on the front, if you look closely) straight across, or perhaps out from the body a bit? Or is it possible there is a foundation bodice? If I do try to make it I probably wouldn't worry about it, but it did get me curious and there are all sorts of talented people here!

I am wondering if it is just some light boning to give the neckline its shape underneath that fold, since it looks like some pretty drapey fabric?

I agree, on the zoom view it looks like there is something holding the pleat in the back open from the neckline to the yoke. Cute top.

I don't see it. The pockets don't have boning and neither does the back. Front neck isn't a shape that would need boning.

Are there different weights of boning then? I think I can understand it in the neckline, but perhaps more of a horsetail braid type of thing? The only boning I've seen would be too stiff I think.

Quite a lot of the tops I was looking at (Prada, Chloe, Marni) all listed boning and it was never obvious where it might be.. I suppose there is lots to learn here! I wonder if I could drag a friend to Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales to go look at some high end clothes in person (would those be the right stores, or do I need to find something even ritzier?) I can make my way to Rodeo drive at some point, but I'll feel very out of place! :)

I'm betting it's hidden somewhere in those sleeve ruffles. Something light but strong enough to make them stand out instead of flopping and looking limp.

Boning? Bizarre. I can't see boning anywhere and can't image why you would need it in a soft, sheer blouse such as this. It would defeat the whole purpose of the style IMHO. My bet, it's a typo. Someone either doesn't understand what boning is, or forgot to delete the word when copying the description from another page.

I must be blind, but I don't see any pockets either.

I'm going with Belinda on this one ... someone forgot to edit the copy/paste description from the previous top they posted.

The pockets are easy. They are on either side of the dark tan diamond that is right smack in the middle. The tops of them are cut off so they don't complete the diamond shape. If you zoom in you can see the seam sewn at the top of them. As you look at it, the one on the left is light tan and the one on the right is that coral/pink color.

Boning? I don't know where that is, unless it's sewn into the top of the pockets as a stay. I'll look harder.

ETA: I might be crazy, but could the boning be used at the top of the pockets all around inside to kind of keep the tunic from draping into itself? If you look at the back view and zoom in to the side seam area, you can see the seam sewn all around at waist level. You can also see on the back that they didn't do as good a job of matching the diamonds. At any rate, it would have to be a very lightweight boning just being used for shaping. That's all I got.

I don't see pockets. I see an empire seam. The seam that you say is at the top of the "pockets" goes all the way around, front and back. No pockets, unless they're in the sideseams.
