Hi there,

I am making a pair of slacks (since I can't find the right color in store), and have studied this pattern for weeks but I can make neither heads nor tails of this instruction :-(. At this point in the pattern I am completing the front pockets and sewing them to the front of the pants.

The part in question is the middle instruction in pattern.jpg. I totally understand the top part that says "Pin front to side front, placing upper side edge along placement line and matching symbols. Baste across upper and side edges." The next part "Edgestitch close to upper side edge of front, pivoting at small circle to topstitching, through all thickneses, as shown," I just don't understand. Which side is uppder side edge of front? I included pants_symbols.gif which is a drawing of where the symbols are on the pants are (top most is a square, followed by a small circle, and then a large circle at the bottom (where the pocket connects).)

The stitching lines in the pattern diagram make no sense to me. Does anyone out there understand what they are telling me to do? lol.

Thanks! Liz

The upper side edge of the front is the finished pocket edge -- they could have been more clear about that, I agree. They want you to edgestitch along the pocket edge from the top down to the small circle, then pivot and stitch to the top stitching on the pocket.

Make sense?

Ohh, so kind of an "L" shaped starting at the top, down to the small circle, then stitching to the right (based on the picture in the pattern) till you meet up with the top stitching? Just to make sure I understand. :-).
