Lately every issue of Threads I get is damaged. And no wonder: it arrives without any protective packaging. Several times I called and asked them to use envelopes/plastic whatever the cheapest packaging they find. The customer service is very polite, admits that they receive complaints of this sort, without asking offer me replacement issue to be sent in an envelope (!), and it goes on an on. Today the September issue came, again without any packaging, with last pages and the back cover torn. I called, got an offer of replacement, and this email: " Thank you for your continued interest in Taunton Press publications. We appreciate your comments regarding the missing paper cover on your recent issue.
Taunton Press has made a commitment to do our share to protect the environment by becoming as “green” as we can.
In conjunction with this change, we have changed the method of shipping to minimize any damage. We now ship issues in huge pallets which protect them for most of their journey in reaching their recipients. The Post Office handling individual copies has been greatly reduced to help in this process.
We apologize for any inconvenience to you.
Your replacement Threads issue is on it’s way."
I think the person who made the decision about packaging didn't think it through, to put it mildly. Of course, I can continue with getting 2 of each issue (one of them damaged, another in envelope), and I am probably not the only one out there. How does it work out for the environment, or the Threads bottom line? No idea.
Is it possible to get them to see the light? I doubt it.

Mine come in fine shape. My other magazines usually don't have covers and they come through the mail fine as well.
In addition to complaining to Threads, I'd complain to the postal service. You're probably not the only person in your area with damaged magazines due to a careless mail carrier.

I agree, lyl. If Taunton receives complaints about this, it sure seems they should be able to find a very lightweight "green" product to wrap their magazines for shipping. My Threads issues have lately arrived each month in reasonably good shape, but that hasn't always been the case. I think it is the luck of the draw with USPS handling when there is no wrapper. My wrapped Burdas always arrive in perfect condition.

Yes, mine arrive in great shape. I would keep calling them to let them know that the issues are arriving in a mangled state. It's really an imposition on your time to call them, but you are paying for a subscription to a pristine copy of the magazine.

This must be a local issue, because my issues to Australia arrive wrapped in a plastic opaque envelope; I have only once had an issue go missing, and the replacement arrived in a paper envelope with a cardboard backing to it to prevent bending.

What a shame your magazine is posted without any protective packaging
In Australia, my Threads arrives in a white plastic waterproof envelope. We do pay quite a lot more for an international subscription, perhaps we are paying for the extra packaging too.

My Threads magazine arrived yesterday with some damage to it. The back few pages were creased along the bottom edge. (Dogeared!) This is the first time I've received a damaged one. I'll be calling Threads for a replacement as I keep each and every issue for future reference. Love my Threads - just want to always have one in very good condition.

Mine arrive in fine condition as well, in both MD and FL since I'm a snowbird. I receive so much less post office mail these days that they must have time to take good care with the few things I do get via the PO.

I've received quite a few lately that have been damaged.
The difference probably is how many sorting steps are needed for your address AFTER the magazine is unpacked from that pallet.
I'd be willing to bet that not more than 3 or 4 people in my zip code get a subscription, so that would be at least one extra sorting step.
I'd guess that the pallet is unpacked in Franklin Park, IL or somewhere else near Chicago and then is shipped in at least 2 legs to my local post office 140 miles away....
