I was wondering, so many of you out there have so many machines and when you feel you want to let one go because you have too many or maybe you want to bring another one home, how do you decide which one to let one go?

I have two machines and I really don't sew enough to have more than two. I really love my Singer 750 Golden Touch and Sew. I love the looks of it, I like sitting in front of it. This machine sings to me. What I don't like about it is I know that I will probably down the line need to replace parts on it due to the plastic gears but I guess I feel it's worth it. My other machine is a 403A. I love this machine because it's reliable, sturdy, made to last, and makes amazing stitches and I probably won't have to do much or spend much on it to keep it sewing. What I don't like about it is I'm just not drawn to sitting down to sew with it. I think it's the color or something. I was thinking about maybe letting this one go if I'm not going to want to sew with it and maybe replacing it for a 600. I go back and forth on it because the 403 is in such amazing cosmetic condition, and I know it's one of the better machines it just doesn't make sense to trade it in but I find myself passing it up to sew on the 750. Think I should just hold on to it and maybe it will grow on me?

No, I think you should hold onto it because it is reliable.. seriously you never know when you may need it due to the other machines needing servicing or breaking down in the middle of a project. I would for sure try out the new machine first before letting this one go.. something I seem unable to bring myself to do is get rid of any of my machines.....

As someone who owns 6 sewing machines...I can hardly comment here. I too have trouble getting rid of anything. However, if you do find youself in a predicament where one is broken and you need a different one...they aren't
difficult to find or purchase.

Ever notice how overstock tells you the sellout risk on something is high and you can talk yourself into buying? Even though you can probably find the same thing elsewhere for the same price?

At the same time I don't think having 2 machines is overdoing it. Look at poorpigling.Course I'm also in de-cluttering mode at the moment so I've been getting rid of stuff from my office like you wouldn't believe. You guys would be so proud.

You might regret later if you sell your 403. I'd keep it as a backup.

A reliable backup is worth it's storage space!
I'd keep it. JMHO

There are times I need two different color threads and this keeps me from having to change colors.. I gave my Kenmore to my sister and missed it so much I bought me a 19110 to replace it. Just weigh both sides of the issue before getting rid of it.

Yes, I do agree I should have two machines and three, four, five and six. But what I was wondering is should I trade in the 403 for the 600 machine. I've always liked the 600 and when I was first looking to get a sewing machine, the 600 was the one I was going to get but after doing a lot of reasearch, I ended up going for the 403. Both machines are very much alike as far as relialbility, no plastic, last forever, cams, etc. the 600 is different in style and color and I think I'm more drawn to that. But, now that I have this 403 in my home ( and the two machines are friends) is it worth it to send it back on ebay to get the 600? I would keep both machines and add the 600 to my collection but my family thinks I'm already strange for having two and having a third at my door, well that will not happen they would have me sent away. Most of you can justify for having so many because you really sew. I wouldn't even want to try to began to explain why I would need a third to my husband. It's eaiser this way. Too bad those boxes are so stinking big or else I would get a third and hide it.

If you're not really bonding with a machine then I see no shame in letting it go to a new home where it'll be used and replacing it with an equally good workhorse machine that you do love. However, if you like having it around, even if only for it's looks, then no shame there either.

And I say this as someone who owns far too many machines! And this is AFTER I've rehoused two that I didn't click with. It all starts so innocently with bringing home that first spare ...

Have her delivered to a friend's house & then take her out of the box & bring her home when you are the only one there. That way all of them are happy & Sew are you! ...... I think it is good to have 2 & keep the 403 for a backup in case one goes to the shop....
I just explained that to my hubby when we took my newest one out of the box...his reaction you have 3 already...Well....they all do something a little different...well they all are used all the time....well...okay...I WANTED HER & besides then I can sew at night when he says everyone else makes too much noise.......
