I am sewing some Ottobre jeans for myself. Size 44 according to my measurements, and also when I did a muslin (which was just with a cotton woven). Now I am sewing the denim, which is non-stretch 14oz. I have sewn all the leg seams, and next up is to do the waistband. But I tried them on, to check fit and I was expecting them to fit more snugly. Which they are anything but!
They fit more like pants, in that they are falling rather than hugging :(

If I take in the outside seam, will this be enough for a decent-ish fit? (these are my first ever jeans, so perfect wasn't my aim lol) I really don't want to have to un-pick all my rather nice top stitching.

If I make them again, should I go down a size?

Thanks :)

Can you post a picture? This would give a better idea of where the "fitting" needs to be done.

Keep in mind that true denim will stretch out after being worn, so you will have to take it down in size a bit. If you fabric is not a true denim, it may not stretch and if you take it down in size, your garment may be too small.

It looks like the waist is a size too big. Could you take a bit off the sides and a bit off the center back? Not too much, but that probably won't be a problem.

I will run a stitch down the sides and back later and see if that helps.

Thank you for the suggestion :)

Well I just did the side seams, to see the result, and I ended up taking them in from the original seam line by 1.2cm!! OMG! So I took them in by 2.4cm on each side.....
This does throw out the back pockets a little, but I can always move them later...

Comparing to the pattern, the difference between the size 44 (what I traced) and the size 40, is 1.2cm (no SA added being Otto).

So should I be cutting the 40 next time? Or have I completely missed that point?

I do feel it is slightly too long in the crotch as well, but for now, on this pair that is just tough.

Edit: Nevermind, my slightly sleep-deprived brain has worked it out (I forgot that when I go down a size, the CF & CB will also help with the reduction - duh!)
