Tell me about this cabinet (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

I just found this SM on CL and am wondering if I should talk myself out of it. I'm currently wanting to collect 1950s Japan made machines for using in sewing classes I want to teach. I want the machine, but I'm not particularly interested in the cabinet unless there is something special about it. Does anyone know anything about it? It sort of looks like a Martha Washington cabinet, but I'm not sure.

It's fabulous, and so is the cabinet. I'd refinish it though. I don't like machines to be separated from their cabinets because I find them difficult to use if they are not mounted into a flush surface. Also, in the case of Kenmore machines, the shape of the bed is usually non-standard. It's doubtful you'd find another cabinet that would fit this machine without a lot of hunting.
To my eye, this cabinet is unusual and interesting, so personally I'd keep it.

Nice. If the cabinet is similar to the Martha Washingtons that White liked to use with the Rotary of that era, it has some really ingenious storage for a sewing cabinet, too. Grab it and run!

I would also advise to keep the cabinet! (Nice pink kenmore too!) I don't like the machines separated from the cabinets either. I feel sorry for the tall guys who have to take them out!
Someone gave me a white kenmore model 158.540 yesterday. It will be my first kenmore. I hope its in a cabinet like that!

I just got a call from the owner. I'm going to look at it now. He said the cabinet was the "Martha Washington" edition. Now I'm as excited for the cabinet as the machine!
