Read about it here. I guess from what the article says that not all manufacturers are against making clothing for plus size women. Designer names like Marc Jacobs, and stores like Saks Fifth Avenue as well as Forever 21 were mentioned.

Over 1,000 people have commented on that article that you linked.
I was happy to hear that fashion designers are considering plus-sized women. Currently, Neiman Marcus, Saks and Norstrom (there may be others) have some plus-sized clothes that are wearable but much more expensive and more limited than the regular line. Its a good thing we sew.

Sewing and reading about sewing are daily pleasures.
I hope to use up lots of stash in 2023. I am also starting to give away fabric, tools, etc that I am not going to use in an attempt to downsize.

I read that and hope more will become available but am not holding my breath. I was shopping in JC Penney this week and they had cut the plus section way back in the past month. I complained to the purchasing manager and she said not much was showing online to order in the line I like which takes up a lot of the section. I bought a suit there and in a Belk's store as apparently they have cut back as well-hopefully these will keep me until the sewing machines are unpacked from the remodeling/decluttering I have in progress. I did not get my first choice in color and will have to make a shell for one of them as the one in my size had a defect. We don't have a lot of mall stores to choose from with plus in our area- and the ones mentioned are not here. I don't know what big people who don't sew will wear- I guess men's sweat pants and tees. I am giving my machines big hugs when they come out of storage and I am not sewing for anyone but me in the future. Thank goodness my 3 adult daughters are tiny and buy rtw although they would love for me to sew for them again- not going to happen. This is desperation point. I keep looking at all the sorry mismash of clothes and shoes on clearance racks that no one wants and wonder how long before someone manufactures/designs stuff where it is desperately needed like for the plus size women who don't sew.

Not doing something doesn't mean you are against it. One is consumed with other things and probably don't have the means to do it according to consumer expectations. Few of us here are into glass blowing or bee keeping but it doesn't mean we are against it.

Interesting post, Kathleen ... and interesting comments to it, as well. Very thought-provoking ...

What I never seen discussed here on Pattern Review is Home Shopping Network OR QVC. They routinely offer clothing for women in a huge range of sizes from Extra Petite to 3 X.

I am not shopping right now since the employment scene is disastrous for me--makes me appreciate the value of having kept up a decent wardrobe in better times. Yet - I do check out the "designer clothing" specials on either of those two networks on occasion. And I think they should recieve credit for reaching such a large variety of sizes. Especially noteworthy is that they DO NOT charge extra $$ for the larger sizes. That is rather nice.

I buy from QVC from a couple of clothing designers but more jewelry. I have lots of Joan Rivers pieces though this spring I returned more than I kept of that. I have a good bit of Susan Graver clothing although the pants don't fit me worth a flip. Lots say they love them. The only thing about the larger sizes is they fly out the door before you can blink your eye. By the time I decide to call in for something( about 10 seconds) the size or color I want is gone. I just cannot take 10 seconds to make decisions to spend $50 to $100 or more for anything. I at least have to have a few minutes to ask do I need or even want this item. Lol! I am a really bad fast shopper and they don't get that many articles in the plus sizes like they have available in the miss sizes. Recently I have returned lots of items and the shipping when I started taking a hard look was pretty healthy. My daughter( very small not a plus) used to buy more on the various shopping channels and she and I have decided that the quality is not what it was formerly for many brands and designers we liked. If I don't get back to sewing soon it looks like I will have to get back to speed dial on the shopping channels and just make myself ignore the money I spend on returns. I keep wondering what if they are like the stores recently and just cut back in half or more what they now have in the larger sizes even speed dial won't help the big girls. What attracted me to one particular mall line is I seem to not have alterations with that designer since there are a lot of petite pants and 3/4 sleeves or short sleeves. I did hem some jackets last year. I always feel if I have to do many alterations I am no better off. If I had time to sew I would make the clothing. On the flip side I do have some sets I bought last winter that need some alteration and have not been worn. I bought several last week when I had to be in the mall town when I realized the line I like is evaporating. When I get a lull with the painting and my October trip is behind I will get busy making them wearable. I will be ok when the machines get out of storage as I bought a good bit of clothing last year that I can turn to for dress events. I think any larger or busty person better hone their sewing and fitting skills if they plan on having any clothing in which to leave the house. We don't even have places around here that alter any more not that I would trust some of them that I have seen their work with an expensive outfit. I am going to hug my machines when they get back in place in the house.
