Silky knit, used in slips (Moderated by Deepika, Sharon1952)
Posted on: 10/7/10 9:45 AM ET
I was looking at a pair of Addidas running shorts yesterday. The outer shell of the shorts were the pique / mesh like athletic material (which I have). But, they were underlined in a silky, two way stretch knit. Similar to what an old slip of mine looked like. I'm assuming it was in there for comfort and modesty. I'd like to order some, but I haven't a clue what it's called to where to find it. Does anyone know?

Traditional old school slips are made from nylon tricot. I have some technical wicking fabric in my stash called silk weight power dry from the old Malden Mills. Now I believe it can be purchased (irregularly) from Mill Direct. It's made by Polartech and does have a right side and a wrong side, but it gets lot of use as knit lining.

Excellent! Thank you
I wonder if this will work. I'm thinking 'yes' based on the description.

It seems very similar to what I have. Here's the stuff I have. Getting cut yardage is very hit or miss. Right now they just have pastel pink.

Just remember to keep the knit side on the outside and the perl side next to your body. Otherwise it will wick the perspiration back to you.

Would you use it in the same manner as the Addidas? For underlining?
I think what you're telling me is that these are the really thin ones that can be worn as undergarments (a la the original Under Armour) or as underlining for other materials?
I ask because I got a huge order from Wazoodle and it's meshy. Versus this great stuff I got in Montreal is almost fleecelike. But, I want to use up my mesh
Sorry if I'm being a touch dense!

Right now Fabric Mart has nylon tricot in white, black and navy for $1.00/yd.

It might also be power-net.
There is an athletic fabric that is used in the expensive gym wear that is really nice to use. I was looking for it, and now I don't even remember the name of it!
But--if you go to ebay, and type in some of the upper-end say, yoga clothing, you will see a fabric that is sometimes mentioned. It resists getting stinky and sweaty etc.
Then, once you find it, there are two or three different names for it,
and you can then find the fabric on ebay...
If I remember the name of it; I will come back. My daughter might also know the name of it, she used to look for that fabric when she bought her gym wear.
Powernet is a good one for the lining for sure.

I believe they make it in different weaves. You can get it in a waffle weave, but you can also get it in a jersey type weave. It is a fairly thin knit. I've used it as an underlining with mesh knits, but also used it to make pant slips. This was make from silk weight powerdry. Pant liners also made from powerdry.

Whoops. Was going to tell you powernet or power powder dry with underarmour and you already knew.
Carry on. My bad, you already figured it out.
