When you hang your outdoor christmal lights, do you cover the outlets or cord ends with anything? I vaguly remember last time I hung outdoor lights, I spent more time wrapping the cord ends in tape a baggies than I did actually hanging the lights. All these cords and light sets say outdoor use, so i'm wondering if all the cord wrapping is really necessary.

We don't do anything to them. Stringing them up is enough of a pain. Darn if I'm going to gift-wrap them, too.

Gift wrap them. I never thought of it this way. I will tell my DH this when we put ours up this weekend. That is way too funny.

Most if not all the outdoor lights are listed for outdoors, which means it can take rain, snow, etc and not burn your house down. Relax and enjoy the season.

My husband uses duct tape when he joins 2 strings together, just in case water can get in there "somehow". It works, but is a pain to get the duct tape off.

I do try to make sure that the joins between light strings or extension cords are off the ground, in case there's some puddling of rain or melt water. No "gift wrapping" for me, though.

Rain, sleet, snow - we have never wrapped or taped and everything is fine. Just be sure they are rated outdoor. always take the easiest path

Yeah, i'm at least smart enough to do that. Good thing too, because the extention cord I was planning to use had 'NOT FOR OUTDOOR USE' right on it. I didn't realize that they were not all outdoor cords.

I just make sure the water can't puddle on the connection, and where there is a question, loosely tape a baggie over with an opening at the bottom to allow any moisture to get out, and to prevent water from getting in and messing with the connection. Not gift wrapping, just a bit of a barrier for the worst of the wet to get away from the plug to plug connections.
