Anyone have experience with either of these products? And what about width? Firm-flex comes in 15" and 30" widths and Timtex comes in 13.5" and 22" widths. I'll be using if for purses, hats and some small projects - do you think the smaller width would be ok or will I regret not getting the wider one?

Hi Lori.....I posted just to bump this back up to the top.....I have yet to use either, but most PR folks seem to to prefer Timtex in the 22 inch wdith.

I just posted for someone else about TimTex
I found this site
http://www.judithm.com/shop/?page=shop/browse&category_id=993f143f9f2ff941d5cf88cf50fb975d&

Where do you get it? At a local supply?

Lori, I haven't used either product so I'm talking through my hat, so to speak. Shoppers Rule carries the FirmFlex and they seem to carry good quality products. Here is their product page on FirmFlex that might help you decide which to use. On the width issue, you may have more waste with the narrower width but this is sheer conjecture! Let us know which you like.

My Mom was on a fabric bowl kick this past Christmas and I found myself using a ton of Timtex.

I'd say pop for the bigger size, you can get more out of it layout wise, rather then be left with little peices that you'll have to waste.

Does that make sense?

How do Timtex and Firmflex compare to buckram? Buckram I've seen, but not the others.

Leslie, these other stiffeners (new word?) are not woven like buckram. Actually they remind me of very thick pellon with a spongy feel. I think buckram would work for some of the applications but I would hate to try satin stitching on buckram like people were doing with the fabric bowls. My mother used to make hats using buckram and I remember her steaming and shaping them over the tea kettle in the kitchen. Now, that takes me back!

For those asking where to buy these, shoppersrule.com sells both and I've seen Timtex at fabric.com.

I just finished a purse and I used trimtex to interface the bottom. It worked out well. I was thicker than I expected it to be. Mine was 22" but came already cut and rooled up in a package. I got mine from Londa. I'll post the review tomorrow.

Pellon's version is Peltex. It's the width of a regular interfacing bolt (22"?). Available at Jo-Ann's.
