Hi! After saving a bit here and there I have enough to purchase an iPod Touch. I am a bit hesitant because just about all the reviews say it's so wonderful which it probably is but everything has a down side. What do you love and/or not love about your Touch? Thanks for your help!

I don't have one, but my kids do. I've borrowed theirs on occasion.

We really don't use ours for any constructive purpose. Just entertainment. Some of the games are fun for me as well. I like some of the puzzle games like unblock, kenken, vortex, crackcode, and tetryon. I like uno too.

I like that the games are relatively cheap. Most apps we've bought were like 99 cents. This is very cheap when compared to buying the kids a Nintendo game at $30 a pop.

I find the battery life to be terrible. They constantly need charging. That is why I am not dying to get one for myself. I have one of the kids hand-me-down ipods that I use for music and some podcasts. I prefer them for the battery issue. If I find that I will be sitting and waiting somewhere, sometimes I will borrow the touch.

Becky, if you go into settings and turn notifications off, the battery will last MUCH longer! When notifications are turned on the iTouch is working all the time, therefore using up battery. HTH!

Patti, I've had my iTouch for two years as of last month and use it constantly. It's like an extension of my hand as I rarely am far from it! I use the list maker app for all my shopping lists, we travel in our RV a lot and we use the checklist app. I use it to check the weather including radar when weather warrants watching. I have hundreds of photos of our kids and six grandkids -- much easier than carrying actual photos or albums around! I enjoy playing Solitaire and Backgammon while waiting at various places. I have a lot of music on it and can plug my iTouch into the car or the radio in the RV and listen to it. I have the Kindle app on my iTouch and have read 295 books on my iTouch! I got an actual Kindle this week but still think I will prefer reading on my iTouch at times. It's just lighter and easier to hold. We also have an iPad so we're gadget geeks and love them all. We use them a lot but that's just us! I really can't think of any negatives!

What are you comparing it to? I have a laptop, an iTouch and a netbook. No iPad or tablet.

I use my iTouch primarily for:

  • Carrying my music around and for the treadmill
  • Is my electronic calendar. I have a paper calendar at home, but this goes in my pocketbook
  • Is my electronic address book
  • Calculator for grocery shopping price comparison and calculating total yardage costs
  • Carrying pictures
  • Subway maps where I'm vacationing...or even in my own city
  • Maps app to show me directions
  • Some games to play when I'm sitting at the airport or waiting for the train
  • My yoga and exercise apps
  • My electronic notepad, grocery list

I don't have the latest version with the camera in it. I use it at night if I'm sitting in bed and want to check something on the web, such as email or FB.

The obvious question is why wouldn't I buy an iPad instead:

  • I don't write long things on it; that would be for my netbook
  • I don't read e-books
  • I like the small size, so it fits in my pocket or handbag and is light

My iTouch is used for single-tasking...iTouch and iPads don't multi-task. I don't have a smartphone. I like having a phone for phone things and iTouch for the non-phone things. I don't surf the web or check FB when I'm not home where I have an access point, but that's just me...I'm just not someone who updates FB everywhere I go.

I also have a docking speaker in my sewing room and in the living room that I can dock my iTouch when I'm in those rooms.

    HTH

btw, I'm thinking about upgrading my iTouch for more memory. So I can scan all my patterns and have them available while I shop. I also have FabricStash (to track your stash fabrics), but because I have so much other stuff, I don't have enough memory to store pictures of my fabric for FabricStash!

What the other Peggy said:) I love mine, too - it is older and doesn't have a camera. I have all my music on mine as well as several audio books. Great for traveling because I can plug it in my car (also recharges when I do this). Address book; pictures, stock quotes; weather; games (I am hooked on Words with Friends); calendar (mine syncs with my computer); calculator; Kindle app (I also have a Kindle and the two sync so you can pick up either one and start reading where you left off) etc. etc.

I think playing games uses the battery faster than reading. I bought different earphones for mine - the ones that come with it kept falling out when I was working out. That's pretty standard, though.

PS. I babysat for my 2.5 yo neighbor the other day for EIGHT HOURS! I bought the "Five Little Monkeys" app and he watched it over and over. Peace:)

I just got my Ipod touch about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I'd been using an old 2gig Nano which I gave to my DS then bought myself a used 16 gig newer Nano. The old 2 gig had an accident, not of my DS's doing but anyways so I decided to upgrade.

I use my Ipod primarily for audio books both from the library and from Audible. If you listen to audiobooks, Amazon has a deal were you get $100 off certain Ipods if you sign up for a full year of an Audible membership which is like $15 a month. I was already a month to month member so I just coverted mine and got the deal.

I'm still learning all that my Ipod can do and wow, I'm amazed. For me, I love that I can skip the whole download to the computer then transfer thing with the audio books and go straight to my Ipod, we have wireless at home. I also downloaded an app to read epub books on it. I have a Kindle so I don't need that app.

I really like it so far but have only just touched the surface of what it can do.

Absolutely love my iPod touch ... never go anywhere without it It even stays within reach on my nightstand.

I have the 32G model, 2nd generation, (no multi-tasking, no camera) but am waiting for a decent camera to make the upgrade, maybe 2011 will be the year.

My major uses are
- email, weather, lists, grocery shopping, note taking, diary, banking updates, games, ebuddy for socializing with friends, maps, telephone # lookups, free texting, horoscope, auto maintenance/gas mileage tracker, fun sites - FML ivote epic fail etc. , radio, movie listings & reviews, telelvision, photos, reading news, bible readings/daily inspirations, dictionary/thesaurus, wikipedia, this day in history, languages, recipes, diet and exercise tracking, health sites, tracking cycles, home & garden apps, clothing designer & catalog apps, ebay, craigslist, kijiji, yardage calculator, financial calculators, conversion calculators, tracking investments, for travel - mapping reviews etc, strabucks locator, timer, coupon clipper, .....

I guess the better question is what I don't use it for :)
You definitely can't go wrong with an iPod touch. However, I personally find no use for the iPad - just too big!!

enjoy!!

Kim - if you get the Kindle app and sync it with your Amazon/Kindle account you can read on either one. It takes you to the last page you read. I love that because I don't usually take my Kindle with me but my iTouch is always in my purse. If I am waiting for someone, etc. I can read!
