Please help. My four-threat coverstitch has become a three-thread due to the loss of one of the tiny, tiny screws that holds the needle in place. What is the fastest way to replace? There is no dealer easy to travel to.

I've gotten serger parts from sew4less.com

Service was very good.

I don't know what brand you have, but my Babylock CS came with extra screws, in the storage compartment under the looper thread spindle.

Thanks so much for your speedy replies. Unfortunately my Brother did not come with any replacement screws. I went to the Sew4Less web site and was not successful. I left a phone call message and await their getting back to me.

Since the screw that holds the needle in place is about the size of a piece of dirt and I keep plants near the machine, it is almost impossible to find.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tie a piece of cheese cloth (or Panty hose) over then end of your vacuum cleaner nozzle with an elastic - maybe you will "suck it up". Good luck

Would a magnet swept across the dirt work? I use magnets a lot to find small screws. Hope you find it!

You might, very carefully, take a screw out of another one of the needles, and then go to the best hardware store in your area and see if they can find a match.

Or go to another sewing machine dealer--many machines have these tiny screws--and see if you can find a match, or if they can order one for you. Good luck. You must be so frustrated.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try gently sweeping again but piece is so small I am afraid to use anything electronic even with cheesecloth. In the interim, I called the company ( if they don't carry them, how cold a dealer get one?) as there is no dealer convenient to my home. They cost five dollars each and two-day shipping is seven dollars - only two dollars more than the standard three to five day rate. Not a bad deal.

I lost mine as well some time ago and had to mail-order one from a dealer. It was neither time-consuming nor expensive (unlike washing machine replacement parts). Those screws are easy to lose (in more than one way), so re-ordering should be easy.

If you have Brother, the Babylock screws might work.

Thanks, Purple, for acknowledging how easy it is to lose a screw. A few years back, after dropping screws and needles into the bodies of various machines, I started slipping a large piece of paper under the pressure foot to catch needles, etc. I thought I was being careful but Monday I dropped the little wrench with the screw attached to the floor. It separated and was gone.

The good news is that I just received two new replacement screws from Brother at only five dollars each. (What costs less than five dollars anymore?) I will, however, take the suggestion to see if any hardware stores carry them for the future.

Thanks to all of you who help out sewists in need.
