I ordered some hair canvas recently-they were extremely quick in shipping even though charges from LA were a little high. I would definitely purchase from them again.

Thanks to both of you for the info. When I googled Matka I saw Black and Son but at first glance it looked British so I scrolled through it. Glad you set me straight. I think I am somewhat confused about matka anyway as I didn't realize that it was the same as raw silk. I also didn't know it was not colorfast which kind of nixes it for the project I had in mind.

Why isn't it colorfast, I wonder? Usually, Silk is colorfast.

Sewwhtif,

I purchased some black silk matka with the intention of making a simple jacket. The fabric was a disaster. As you already noted, it is NOT colorfast. It bled and bled and bled and bled.......... In the process of trying to remove the excess die, I ruined the fabric. I don't recommend it. Look for a plain old raw silk or silk noile. Janies Sewing Corner has a few pieces of raw silk/silk noile. She doesn't really sell via Internet but she might make an exception. I have a cut of one of them for a jacket I hope to make soon. It is always worth a try to ask.

Good luck.

Patty

Silk matka isn't really supposed to be washed. It has a fair amount of texture and also a slight sheen that is ruined by washing. Unless you are committed to dry cleaning it a different fabric might be a better choice.
