Which cake should I bake? (Moderated by Deepika, EleanorSews)
Posted on: 5/6/11 2:53 AM ET
I'm having trouble on which cake I should bake for mother's day.
I thought of making a red velvet cake and a chocolate cake (don't know what type to make). Could you help me or have any other delicious, scrumptious suggestions of cakes I should try.
Sorry it's a bit late

Is this for your mother? What flavor is her favorite?
Personally I like chocolate fudge layer cake with peanut butter frosting or boiled sugar (vanilla) frosting.

This cake is for my mum. She doesn't have a favorite flavor. She likes any flavor.

Since she likes any flavor that should make it easy. Pick the one that is the one you make best.
How many people will be at the cake eating? If it's many then a sheet cake would be easier to serve than a layer cake and there would be more room on the top to write Happy Mother's Day in colored icing.

This peanut butter buttercream on chocolate cake.
Although, the cake itself is pretty fantastic- when I make it again, I'm going to just use banana slices and crumbled bacon, rather than the fried bananas and candied bacon. That part was a lot more effort than it was worth.
