......a day that is a week long with no nights and I won't get tired. Let me go into my sewing studio and just leave me alone. Bring me good food once in a while and pick up the dirty dishes w/o me asking.

My kids have been out of the house for 15 plus years and I see them often, so don't need to see them. Am I a grump and ingrate?

Yes.

Send your kids over here...I see mine only once a year or so and never on Mother's Day.

But if I were in your shoes I'd be wishing for alone, creative time too! In fact, personally I'd go for the creative time without guilt any day of the week! Wonder if I could talk my dh into doing the servant thing?

Do one or the other "kids" take you out for lunch or are they coming to your house and you end of being the "hostess"?

I would take a nice lunch out to my favorite restuarant then go home and send the kiddos on their way to their own homes.

I've already bought the Challah, strawberries and whipping cream for French toast. And my son has promised to clean up his room. If you could see his room you'd understand why I think this is a REAL Mother's Day present.

Re: For Mothers day all I want is......... (posted on 5/7/11 0:20 AM ET)
I went by the vet's office today to pick up some meds for the dogs (all my kids have four feet each). The receptionist asked if my pooches were making plans to take me out to lunch for Mother's Day. I responded that I would suggest to my husband that HE suggest to the dogs that they do such a thing.

We'll see what happens....

I have almost always been hostess on Mother's Day, either driving 45 minutes to my MIL's for years and bringing dinner there or having her over here. I never resented it. My 91 year old Mother lives a day's drive away and I just had her here for 2 weeks at Easter and we visited and spent 2 nights with my grandkids. Maybe I'm just in need of some alone, non-caretaking time. My oldest daughter said she wants to take me out for brunch, so that will be nice as long as I can go home and play afterwards.

And I do appreciate having my girls close by if I could just get one to go to the mall with me to snoop shop. When they were younger that was what I asked for for Mother's Day.

Sorry I was such a grouch. I am bad

Not grouchy at all...know just what you mean.

Out for brunch and then home to play...sounds good.

I don't think it's crotchety at all, especially since you see them often! I am (allegedly) seeing my oldest for breakfast in an hour (he never confirmed... or where... ), DD's up north at school, and youngest (college freshman) said we can do whatever I want, it's my day. He ever so generously offered to hang out and play video games and bring me coffee while I sew all day . And supposedly he cleaned his bathroom but it was just so darn scarey knowing our definition of "cleaned" is quite different I'm just not going to look. But it did make me decide what I want to do - we're going to clean together in the morning! He said whatever I want! Maybe bowling later. But ya know video games and sewing don't sound bad to me at all!!!

I'd like to win something at our dance competition, but would settle for making it into a final.

Won't see the kids or the MIL. Will go back to work Monday exhausted, but worth it for a fun weekend.

I see my kids and grandkids all the time as they live quite close. I'm happy with a text that says Happy Mother's Day and the idea that they were thinking of me. For me mothering is a daily affair and not a Hallmark card.
