I want to make some nicer nightgowns and cami sets for sleeping. I made one of the Colette Nutmeg camis out of a polyester charmeuse for practice. It's adorable but the polyester is horrible to sleep in.

The pattern calls for silk type products and cotton lawns. I'd love to do silk but I want to be able to launder them easily and they are really cost prohibitive right now.

Any other ideas?

I also have this lovely pattern to try out from Folkwear.

tricot is what I would use. I believe that may be the same as rayon knit.

I was thinking of wovens though. I did find some rayon woven that might work. Thanks

I made the Folkwear Intimacies pattern in silk crepe de chine and it's heavenly:), fabricmart has relatively cheap silks you might try them. Just wash it before you cut.

A tip if you do decide to use tricot .... do NOT pre-wash it. It makes it more difficult to work with and the edges will curl even more than usual. Most nylon tricot will shrink little if any - so is safe to skip that step. I do pre-wash my silkies and woven fabrics, tho.

Fabric Mart has some silk cotton blends on the site right, and I was thinking they would be really nice for nightgowns. I have had really good luck washing silk. I just wash it like I would anything else. I think it feels nicer after I wash it too.

ETA: I just placed an order with Colette Patterns, and I really wish I would've added this pattern. I keep almost buying it, and then wishing I had!

You beat me to it! The silk/cottons are $12.99/yd, which isn't dirt cheap but an excellent price for that blend. Silk-cotton is my favorite fabric; it is so wonderful to sew and launders well.

Otherwise, cotton batiste or other lightweight cotton wovens are lovely for sleepwear. A quick search shows that Fabric.com has some cotton voiles at a good price right now (some as low as $4.98/yd).

Silk weight powerdry also makes nice breathable sleepwear. Especially for those experiencing hot flashes.

I saw those silk/cotton blends. They look lovely.

@Wendy - Is that a Terv in your picture? My good friends dog took ABTC Select at the National Specialty. I know nothing about confirmation so I have no idea what it means...lol.
