I need help to cover a hole on my sister's dress. She cut herself with glass and got a hole in the dress.

We thought we might be able to add some kind of ruffling up across the front in some form or fashion. She is in love with this dress.

It's a lightweight sweater knit.

Thanks for any help possible..

Maybe some funky zipper roses or those big silk flowers (very on trend right now, leastwise what I see/hear.)

I like the idea of silk flowers, but she wanted to keep it from getting too "frilly". Silk however, sounds like a good fabric.

Here is one way to make flowers. I haven't tried this yet.

And here is another way I have tried this and it can be as simple or as frilly as you want it.

It would be tempting to weave the hole with yarn or fuzzy thread matched as closely as possible and then follow the lines of the repair and use an accent in both sides of the center front line, maybe repeating elsewhere on the dress. Maybe a curved whipstitch line on either side, or a lightly cross stitched triangle in the center and one to either side. Or a detail that picks up on an earring or pendant shape. Round black earrings with white wavy line could be repeated in a design across this area. It looks to be spaced decently on the body to accept this treatment and the pattern would hold up to having something done within the horizontal stripe.

You may be able to pick up some threads from the hem for the reweaving.

Agreed. I would try mending before adding decoration, because the decoration would have to be repeated another place and would change the whole dress.

I was going to suggest finding a complimentary fabric and sew a whole new bottom half. I hope your sister is okay!
