I am sorry I can't post a pic but has anyone tried this pattern at QuiltWomanCan.com?? It is just stunning. I am not sure I understand how it would be rated as "easy". I made an attempt at one of these on a very small scale. It was just a pillow top but I like the idea of doing a much bigger one. These can really be dazzling when done in high contrast fabrics. I'd love to know if anyone has used this pattern and if it is indeed easy before I spend $9 for a download of it.

Here is a link to the pattern I think you mean Big Block Bargello
Here is a link to Quiltville bargello instructions for free.
Bargellos are easy if you can piece and press accurately and stay organized. The only thing tricky about the QuiltWoman version is they've cut apart the 3-strip sets of strips and inserted bigger blocks that take up a 3x3 portion of the smaller blocks. Whether it's worth $9 to you or not depends on how confident you are that you could figure that part out on your own.

Big Block Bargello
Nice pattern!
"Use big-blocks to form a double V design in the small quilt or a triple zig-zag in the large quilt."
There are "solid" block inset in the bargello pattern. I'm going to guess that this pattern is done with 9-patch blocks that you then sew together with the "solid" blocks to form the pattern. IF that's how it's done, then you'll be instructed to make various 9-patch blocks of various color combinations, and you'll need to pay attention to how many 9-patches of each combination to make, and then sew them together in the correct pattern.
The 9-patch block method is not the only way to put this design together, but since it says "Use big-blocks..." that's my guess. They might have some other way to do it.

Thanks all. I love the pattern but I sure dont' see the "beginner" qualities of it. I know the strip-piecing of the units makes it fast. i technically COULD figure this out but the challenging part for me is knowing which color goes where even WITH a pattern!

I've just looked at these quilt sites, an, as I'e a tub full of scraps, have decided to make a scrappy bargello from the free pattern site.
I love that I can put the most unlikely colours and patterns together in a quilt top, and they seem to come out looking fine. [If I wore the same combinations
]
One of the things I found difficult when I began quilting, was combining colours/patterns. I looked at lots of quilting books, patterns and kits, and could see that just about anything goes, so decided to relax and have fun.
Someone here said recently that there are no quilt police, waiting to say 'you can't do THAT', so go for it.

Well, I've posted my scrappy bargello quilt top on my flickr site, if anyone wants to look. [url in profile] I am really pleased that I made this quilt top entirely from scraps from other quilts, even the borders were left over from a quilt back. So, no wasting fabrics. There were a lot of other patterns on that website, and I've still got lots more scraps, so will make something else, after I've done my next project, a friendship braid quilt top.

OOOH that is so wonderful!!! I don't think you could have made it an ounce better if you'd hand-picked each of your fabrics at a store! And you finished it so fast, too!! I noticed in viewing your pictures that you are one PROLIFIC quilter! Thanks so much for posting the pic!

Holy cow! That's competely awsome! I love what you did and all with scraps! This has to go on my "must do" list. Really, really nice!

Thank you very much for your lovely comments.
The pictures of most of my work show only the quilt tops, which is why I can work so quickly. If I was quilting them at the same time I would be much slower. I need funds to increase before I can afford the wadding and backing to finish them off, so am using my fabric stash to keep on sewing whilst I save my [husbands] money

Great scrappy quilt. All of your projects look great. I am especially inspired by your armchair throws to protect the upholstery from the dogs.
