There is another thread that talks of cami's and other items made with merino wool. The Aussies talk as if this fabric is a normal thing to have in a fabric store. Maybe because they live in the land of all those wonderful, wooly sheep.

But where do we find it in the States? Or even online? I would love to make many things from this fabric. Maybe I have seen it but it is just disguised under a different name?

Anybody know?

There have been longish discussions of this topic, but as I recall the consensus was that this lovely stuff is essentially not available in the US. There were a few stores Down Under that carried it and might ship.

Ah, here are those topics!

I have bought some merino wools from Fabricmartfabrics.com and from Emma One Sock. These are rare beauties that don't last long and aren't often available. I buy them when I can. New Zealand is probably more the source of wonderful merino wool than Australia.

Fabric.com has some merino wool currently. On her blog Cabinbaby says they are nice.

Don't want to start a trans-Tasman argument, but do you have any evidence for that?

My first job when I left school was with a wool-buying company. At that time Tasmanian (that's in Australia) merino was the finest, and fetched the highest prices in the world. For 10 of the last 11 years, the prize for the finest merino in the world has gone to Australians.

Hi Karen,

I was visiting several of the sites listed in PR's Merchant Gallery recently and noticed that Nature's Fabrics has merino wool. I haven't ordered from them yet, but Friends of PR get a 15% discount.

Now that I should have looked at before asking. I always try to support our vendors (Linda/EOS do you hear me?) and I will definitely put them first on my list. After Sewliz gave them as a spot to shop I was sold on the prices and selection. Discounts are never anything to ignore!
