Hello all!

I love the idea of wearing trousers made from beautiful drapey tropical weight wool. I purchased a few different cuts of wool that feel wonderful on my hands, arms, and face. But when I try on the trousers - Yikes! I can't get them off my legs fast enough. They feel itchy and bother me.

Has anyone else experienced this? Would it be the quality (or lack) of the wool?

Thoughts?

Thank you.

Patty

Yes! I've picked up wool on the bolt and carried it around in my arms for 20 min. to see how it itches. No itches, so I buy it. Then I make a skirt or pants and have a rash in 20 minutes! I have lined my skirts for wearing, but no longer do pants as I can't be bothered to make lined ones.

I love wool! I love the way it feels, how warm it keeps me--there's something wonderful about wool. But there are times I can't wear it. It fills my sinuses, makes my face break out in a rash, etc. So what I do is take a homeopathic remedy called Sulphur, and that helps alot! And no, it's not the quality that's the problem, as I've knitted wool hats with the finest wool available--it's my body and how it reacts.

I wonder if this is due to the skin on our legs being shaved?

you may need to moisturize your legs more.

Could you try adding a lining, or making a "pants slip"? Then you'd be able to wear the pants without getting the skin irritation.

quathy, I was thinking pants slip also. We actually sold these in the little department store that I worked in during my high school years. Making one would be ideal as a great fit would be critical to comfort.

Line the pants. Aside from making them itchless, they will wear better and feel wonderful. You might also consider lining your waistband as well.

I would just recommend lining your pants. I'm betting the difference is that your arms get exposed to a lot of abuse (even light abuse!) throughout the day from carrying stuff and generally doing things. Your legs are either walking or sitting and covered in pants, so your skin's probably just more sensitive from lack of contact. Wool is itchy to some people because of tiiiny little hooks that are natural to the wool that irritates some people's skin, and not others (and causes it to felt and shrink like mad.) Certain ways of processing the wool minimizes this effect. Things like wool felt usually squigg me out regardless of quality, but I have a fine time with wool knits and tightly woven wool! It's funny how that works.
