I have narrow shoulders but am very wide in the back at the armholes. I usually cut out a 10 for the shoulders, a 12 with a FBA and way up to sometimes an 18 for the back right at the armholes tapering down to a 14 for the hips. Then I just use my french curve and redraw the armholes. I saw where some of you have cut horizontally in the back halfway and vertically up to the shoulders leaving a hinge and spread the amount needed. I have to spread it so much (I need 22 inches right there) that it really distorts the armhole shaping. Any suggestions? My way seems to work but I always have a little difficulty redrawing the armholes.

I have a wide back as well and the alternate suggestion you gave is the same that I use. My often looks kinda "odd" but looks good when i actually wear it. How does it look once you put it on?

It doesn't look too bad. I just thought maybe someone had a better way of doing it.
