wondering if I did it the right way? (Moderated by arianamaniacs)

I am working on a yoga pant pattern for my friend who is 3" bigger in the hip than the largest pattern size.
At first I as going to add 1.5" to each outside seam then had second thoughts about it and decided I should add .75" to each seam, CF and CB.
Do you gals think that will work the best?
By the way I have made this yoga pants pattern for myself and love it. I am working on my 4th pair. Silhouette #3400.

I'd email Peggy, the designer. She is super about answering questions.

I like the idea of emailing Peggy. She is very helpful. Usually, when adding fabric, I have better results adding it internally to the pattern, but in this case, you may want a longer crotch length too...and adding some at the inseams would help you with this. You might also want to slash and spread in the hip area in the back to add some length to go around the rear. Have you measured her crotch length?

I don't like to add to the CB or CF seam. I do add to the side seams in 1/2 " increments that taper down to 1/8" at the hem. Take a look at any multi-size pants pattern to see what I mean. If your friend is consistently big in the hip and thighs then you can add the additional width needed to the side seams. If she carries her weight mostly in her hips and stomach with thinner legs then spread the pattern from within as suggested by Laurasews. Adding to the crotch is a good suggestion unless she is an apple with very thin legs. Happy sewing!

She is an apple, a very round apple with slim legs.
I ended up doing the a combination of all of the above.
Now she just needs to come over so we can cut the muslin and then will drape to get the fit.

I am an apple too so I start tapering the side seam immediately below the hip. Sometimes I have to take in the crotch seam to handle the bagging at the back of the legs. I hope they fit, but it they don't there are more fixes. Apples are hard to fit.

Center Fronts and Center Backs don't usually change, just side seams. You should be able to make any increase on those.
It took me a long time to realize this, but I had someone explain it to me. Stop and think for a moment, we all have the same middle point, it's from that point over that we get wider so a change on the center seam is not necessary.

I see what you are saying. Darn I will have to take the CB & CF amount out and add them to the sides.
I have time as my friend had a tooth pulled and isn't going to feel like getting her pants pattern fitted any time soon.

Make sure you are only adding at the waist and hip at the side seams and tapering back to nothing for the leg. Apples tend to have smaller legs and wide legs can overwhelm us.

Well it really depends on where the weight sits. I am deep through the body, so I add to the front crotch. I never need extra at the side seem.
