Today is the last day lighting is 50% off at Jo-Ann. I've been wanting an Ott light. Are they really worth the money? Should I be running to the store before it closes to get one on sale? Are you ott-light owners happy with your lights?

My Ott light allows me to work with dark fabrics at night. Otherwise it would be a no-go.

I think its a staple and a necessity in most sewing rooms.. However.. if you miss this sell don't worry. They do put them on sale now and then.. so you will have another chance to buy one on sale again in the future.

I have two standing Ott lights and 2 desk versions. Does that tell you what I think about them?

I've used an Ott light for years, first for needlework and then for light at my sewing table (in an otherwise fairly dim eat-in kitchen space). I'm 37, and earlier this year I started noticing that the Ott just DID NOT give off enough light for me to work comfortably anymore.

I replaced it with an inexpensive torchiere lamp and a 100-watt equivalent CFB (23 watts IIRC). HUGE HUGE HUGE improvement. Now instead of a small focused area of kind of decent light, I have light that floods the entire space *and* brightens up my work area brilliantly. (And bonus: the new lamp is also pretty.)

I gave my Ott to my in-laws. YMMV, of course, but I did want to share my experience.

I'm a huge fan - have had a bendable floor lamp for at least 10 years. Just replaced the light bulb for the second time. Bought one for my elderly mother to use when quilting. She's had it for about the same number of years and has never replaced the bulb. If you miss this sale, JoAnn's has them on sale all the time.

Mine makes a horrible buzzing noise which is irritating and another one turns on and off...not a real fan

I had one. Used it for a couple of years until it failed.

It was a good light but there are other lights that are just as good. Ott lights are expensive -- I would not buy one again.

It's a custom-made designer original. I made it myself.

Can't live through the winter without mine. I need that pure light for the dark days and long nights.
The bulbs are expensive as they are full spectrum and they do wear out like any other bulb. I have 5 Ott lites from desk to floor lamp sizes. I have tried other brands and they are not as good a quality.

I have bought mine on the JoAnns' sales or ordered them online when I found a good sale.
