In a work situation:

You are told you made a mistake. You look at supposed mistake and realized the accountant made the entry. No you made the mistake you are supposed to make this entry every month. While trying to explain calmly, cut off with voice raised "I'm not arguing with you your wrong etc etc etc." Does not let you explain that you went over this accounting issue of securities and investments etc with said accountant (CPA) and was told doing it properly. This is not an entry to be made every month only at year end. Which you don't do.

How can you deal with someone like that. And this person saying this is a male, older, arrogant etc. Do other people deal with this at work? I know these days they can treat you any why they want as we have no were else to go. Shaking head.

Maybe you can mention this to the CPA and ask him to explain it to said boss next time the two of you meet..
One thing I have learned.. both at the job site and at home.. and that is you can't tell a man anything sewwolf..

Oh I'm kept away from the CPA. I might get access to someone who works under him if she calls with a question. Otherwise I'm not suposed to contact the accountants. As it costs him.

Been there, done that. It isn't easy working for someone so unreasonable.
I would start looking for another job. I know jobs are not easy to come by but no harm in looking.

Oh I've been looking for 3 years on and off. But for the last year solid. Just not much out there. As people aren't changing jobs like they used to cos of the economy. Trying to hang in and not lose all of my mental health.

It can wait till you do meet with the CPA or talk to one of his associates.. and I will bet you now that your boss will not remember a thing about it. conveniently so no doubt. sigh

Poorpigling's suggestion is great. It's really upsetting to be conscientious about your work and to be attacked instead of just being asked for an explanation.

Would it make you feel any better to know that it's not always the men at work that do this and that it's been going on every since there's been a work place? I have a humdinger of a story about a woman boss that goes way beyond the guy who ripped the phone out of the wall and threw it past my desk Thank goodness he wasn't upset with me!

If/when you speak with the CPA, it would help if there was a visual example or short written explanation that you could have on hand. Even if the CPA explains it to him, this will probably come up again. A lot of guys like that are not interested in the mechanics of correct bookkeeping. They just want the numbers to match up to what they have in their head or what they are wishing for.

It's a good thing that winter is coming; something is amiss and you will need your thickest clothing as a shield to what might be flying around. Is it your office that is top heavy in management? Lean times trend toward one group of folks trying to make themselves look important and necessary while another group of folks are actually working.

Best wishes, Sewwolf. Just keep your nose in the books and focus on the activities you enjoy outside of the office. We all hope that something changes soon so there is less stress in the workplace and in our financial security.

Sorry Sea wolf I understand completely what you are going through. The funny thing is the disfunctional office I worked in and hated was the CPA firm I was employed at right after college. LOL.....I hope you find something but in the mean time poorpiggling is right your boss may even be blowing off steam because he is under pressure right now as well. I don't know if he is the owner of your company or works for someone else who owns it we all have a boss. The owner works for his customers (or he should) The economy is horrid right now and has been for awhile. It seems most people are under stress and lashing out at those who don't deserve it.

he's the owner and really is retired but comes in to do year end, why I don't know. So he's so out of touch with what is going on and expects us to do things how we would have 5 years ago. Doesn't understand computer accounting which leads to even more confusion. It's just nuts
