I've been sewing for awhile now, BUT.... (Moderated by EleanorSews)

I mostly stuck to sewing skating dresses or active wear. I had sewn a few other things, but mostly active wear.
And then about 3 weeks ago, I made my first hand bag. In the last 3 weeks I have made... 4 hand bags/purses and purses, one tote, a valance for my kitchen and a pair of pot holders. The tote, valance and pot holders were made this week and I plan to sew more tomorrow! I did not use patterns for the tote, pot holders or the valance. Those things were so simple to make, I did not see the point in spending money on a pattern. I honestly do not know why I haven't made window coverings before now. Simple designs are not difficult!
I have all these ideas swimming in my head. It really is addicting! I am planning on making my son's teacher a tote for her end of year gift. I have all these ideas of what I want to add to it to make it useful to a teacher! Again, I will not use a pattern. I will create my own unique gift for her. I am also working on Mother's Day gifts for my mom and mother-in-law's(yes, I have 2... due to re-marriage). Again, I will likely design these on my own. UNLESS I get stumped.
I see RTW or other things and think, "I could make THAT!". I'm enjoying not being afraid to make things now. I'm certainly not perfect but I am learning and having fun doing so!

That's great!
I'm glad that you've found something you really love to make!
I also really like to make bags... they're kind of an easy pay-off project as they don't take as long to make as clothes, but you get a great pay off in the end. I usually make one garment, then a bag, then a garment and so on. It keeps me happy!
Some addictions aren't bad at all

This is my problem too! I am a huge "I can make that!" person and start my projects with unbridled enthusiasm and then life gets in the way and the projects start stacking up and I have to join UFO, Stash and Fabric Fast Sew-A-Longs

But I have to say, I started a nice little business with this attitude!Have fun with all your new projects!

It is exciting, isn't it? The possibilities are endless, if we can invest the time and money for a few supplies and a LOT of practice. I get so excited when I have a new project on the go, and love to get home from work and get on to the sewing machine straight away. My poor husband almost has to make an appointment with me just to get my time!!

LOL, yes. Same here. Only it is my daughter who feels she has to make an appointment with me. I need to make a couple of mother's day gifts tomorrow.
I was going to do it today, but the time got away from me. I need to get one done by Friday so my husband can take it to his mom on Saturday. I don't think we will make it there next week, so Saturday is it! :)

What a great spirit of adventure! Before too long you'll be able to sew almost anything you see. Also, you might eventually want to read up on pattern drafting and draping so you can see the way the pros do it. Anyway, your story reminds me very much of my own. Good luck to you!
