I recently bought a Janome DC1050 as a back-up machine. I 've only used her a few times but I notice when edge-stitching the fabric seems to 'catch' in the center of the pressure foot. It is different from other brand feet in that is 'v' shaped....wider in the front and narrow near the needle. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, were you able to find another pressure foot to use instead? (Muffet, feel free to chime in here

Is there a burr on the bottom of the presser foot? Or is it catching in front of the foot?

Ask the dealer for an edge stitch presser foot and not a pressure foot.

There is not a burr on the foot, it catches in the front as the fabric is fed through. It happens especially when I am sewing on edges narrower than the width of the pressure foot. I guess I'm used to the traditionally shaped foot.

My janome did that or something similar the fabric would get caught in the middle of that foot. I just stopped and pulled it out. I don't remember it happening real frequently.

What foot are you using? And would it be better to use another foot? Are you edge stitching as in "overcasting" or just top stitching? I use any foot with a flange to guide the fabric for top stitching. I have the 8050, which is I am sure why you asked. I do not know what presser foot you mean by the one you describe - probably my brain just isn't getting it - tell me more! :)

HHmm...by "V" shaped, is this the foot?

ZigZag A

I have it on and haven't had any trouble at all on any fabric so far - what fabric are you using? I could see maybe a very light gauze getting up in there, but I haven't had the trouble and she has sewn light poly silky stuff, denim, twill, light quilting cotton, double-sided cotton and batting, etc. For edge stitching try the 1/4" seam foot.

WAIT - are you using the original plastic foot on the plastic shank? I early on replaced my shank - you have seen this post maybe?
8050 Shank

When I used the original foot I had no problem, but didn't use it long. Anyway, try that 1/4" foot, and maybe the Brother Seam Guide foot - it is one nifty foot. I got mine at Ken's (but I have seen them at other good online places) and it fits Janome top loaders as well. Here is a link to that:

Let me know how it's going!

Janome doesn't make an edgestitching foot per se, but I have found that the ditch quilting foot works really well for edge stitching or joining two edges like lace. You can't use the G foot because the flange goes further back on the foot. The ditch quilting foot flange stops before it gets to the needle. Hope this helps. I teach on Janomes.

That was nice. Talking pressure with a dealer might indicate assistance is need for a machine with presser foot pressure adjustment.

The DC1050 standard issue is a satin stitch foot, zipper foot and automatic buttonhole foot.

There is a Janome edgestitch foot, but the dealer is the one who would have it, place it one the machine and test it to be sure it will work on this model.

Here is a tutorial that shows how to use an edgestitch foot as well as alternatives.
