I picked up a featherweight over a year ago and STILL have not done anything with it. But I do know that the light bulb gets very hot. Do they have one that is "modern" that could be screwed in and not burn your hand?

I know someone named LynnRowe is very knowledgeable (are you out there?) I purchased it from a guy that used it as an antique decoration - so it has a lot of original parts. Sometimes I think I will sell it to someone who uses it and has the time to lube her. And then I thik I will keep her, but that darn hot light annoys me.

I know there is one on eBay but I read bad reviews on it. I want one too... I have a nice burn near my wrist that took weeks to heal after I bumped the light. It had only been on for a few minutes too!

I never use the FW light...it's hot when you bump your hand on it, lol! Plus it can slow down your FW; the heat can cause the aluminum body to expand enough to effect the very tight clearances on the machine.

I use a clip-on light, you can get them at office supply stores, book stores, etc. You can also use a magnetic light, it'll attach to the faceplate.

What is the wattage of the one you are using? If I remember correctly, anything higher than 15 watts can get dangerously hot - I've heard of folks' sewing projects catching fire if left unattended when using incorrect bulbs.

It's a bendable LED light attached to a magnet, got mine at my local Chapters bookstore.

Thank you LynnRowe, getting burned kept me from using my beloved FW.
Never thought of magnetic lights, have been staying away from magnetics cause of my computerized machines.

No fear that you will fry the motherboard on your FW with a magnetic light

Actually that is a good idea and I might get one myself.

Was it an LED light or just an LED light bulb that you read bad reviews about?

Led lightbulb that is supposed to go in a featherweight. I tank they are sold on eBay.

I use a $10 gooseneck led lamp from ikea and love it. I like that it's not attached so I can use it with any machine as well as seam ripping and other projects that direct lighting is helpful.
