NAYY...This is just so cool!

I'm sure many of you know that to be healthy, we should be doing some type of cardio exercise 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes. Now, three of those days are taken care of for me by going to Curves. Those other two days, though? I don't think typing 65wpm on the laptop counts as cardio. I have a real hard time motivating myself to get out and do something that will raise my heartrate!

So, I started to do some looking; trying to come up with something fun and unusual, that I would look forward to doing. That's when I found Dance Dance Revolution. It's actually a video game that you buy for your XBox or PS2 (comes in both versions). You also get a "dance pad" with it, that has arrows and other things on it. The point of this? Well, you choose between 65 different songs, and follow the Avatar (character on the screen) by mimicking his dance steps. The arrows you're supposed to jump on also come up on the screen.

I'm a horrible dancer, but this is actually fun! There are several different levels, so even a horrible dancer like me can do it! You can battle another person, compete with them for best score, and even play online (w/XBox Live) with other players around the world! The best part??? There's a workout mode that, once you enter your stats, will keep track of how many calories you burn!!!

Here's a really great article by CNN that tells a bit more about DDR!

My daughter loves her "DDR". We have the one that is eyetoy compatible. My son has the "Antigrav" game which doesn't require quite as much movement, but gets him off the couch all the same.

I heard about it from daughter when she went to her friend's sleepover. She loved it and told me, "You can burn a ton of calories, Mom..." (Like that was an incentive for me to buy it." I had to explain to her that we have Xbox, and we're not getting another game thingy just to buy the dance pad.

She raved about it though.

we have DDRMax and DDRExtreme. they are so fun to play. dh bought it for us for christmas 2003, and we went back 2 days later to buy a second dance pad because ds and i kept fighting over whose turn it was. it's a lot of fun.

dh won't play it though -- he's such a white boy.

DH and I discovered a similar program - similar only in that it uses a gaming platform to encourage exercise. It's called "Yourself!Fitness" .

I exercised with it for 3 months, gained 7lbs, and said, "Forget it.". But by then I was in good enough shape to start running again, so hopefully I'll lose it again.
