I'm having a little trouble figuring out your photos. Is the main dress front piece in the same position in each photo?

If so, then the second one is correct. It will all match up once you match the points (it does suggest basting; I'd do that if I were you as you'll understand it better after you see it done.)

I can't tell for sure what you've done in the first trial...

Remember that this will create a 3-D shape. I think your third pic, the second one with the fabric, looks mostly good: but ALWAYS right sides together. Pin it that way and your shape will come together

Pin that center area, between the two dots, right sides together. Then, pin the top and the bottom of the seam, right sides together. When you sew it, you need to pivot at the dots. sew the one part to the dot, put the needle down and raise the presser foot. Pivot the fabric so the center part's seam allowance is squared up @ 5/8ths, sew the center part, pivot again and sew the last part.

I always thought that was a cool pattern!

Hey, you can PIN while babysitting; just don't SEW it until you've checked it over later... :D
