when you've cut out all the pieces of the blocks, have put all the blocks together and it's not lining up the way it should? That's where I'm at with this wall hanging I'm doing out of this book:
Celtic Illusions

This has to match up exactly or it won't look right. Looks like mine isn't going to look right. Very disappointed and trying to figure out what when wrong. I measured twice. I tried to make sure everything was squared. It's not way off but off enough that it will probably be noticeable. At least used fabric from stash so not out a lot of money for this. I will try and at least finish putting the top together but feel pretty sick about it. I was going to do a paper pieced block quilt I should have stuck to my original idea. I guess I can go back to it.

I found with her book I had to cut a smidge bigger and then assemble the blocks to get the pattern to work right.

Or how about the feeling when you cut AND sew half the pieces for your blocks, then realize you don't really like the fabric combo?

Yes I will be cutting and sewing NEW pieces with different fabric today.

I've at a class with Karen Combs (at Quilt University) and she's super nice. The "Contact Karen" button on her web site gives you her e-mail - I bet if you asked she would help you figure out if what you have is recoverable.

Well good to know it wasn't entirely me. lol. I should have not squared the finished block until I saw how they fit. Even though some were a little wonky. Something is telling me that this might have worked out better using the templates. But I don't have the patience to cut them all out individually. Doing it the other way if your first square is off the whole block is going to be off. I'm was thinking of trying to convert to an applique pattern. I think it would be a lot more fun.

Well what I'm going to try is try to center the line. and it might be off by 1/8" on either side. It's not all the blocks some fit together ok. I'm so glad it's a wall hanging and not a full quilt. then I'd really be sick.

Not just you, the templates do help~! I did not really square off until I was absolutely sure I had wiggle room to match the seams and keep that path smooth.

Maybe you could cut shapes out of what you've sewn and use for another project? I've realized if I have any qualms about how I like the fabric at the beginning I won't like it any more as I go along and it really dampers my enthusiasm for the project. That's why I would never like doing commissioned work.

I am working on the baby quilt my husband needs for a gift.

I posted the fabric in the quilter's sew along thread, it's the blue floral.

When I bought the fabric, I didn't have a pattern in mind, and I bought as many coordinates as I could find. Then I found the pattern I want to use, and I needed one more fabric.

Well with the fabric I had, I didn't like one of my original coordinates with it, so I replaced it. Now I am not loving the color combos. I actually like my original choice better! Uggggg.......that means I have to change the pattern's color scheme up a bit, AND cut and sew 72 more half square triangles.

And yes I will use those other 72 half square triangles for something!
