Re: We are home from Hawaii (posted on 5/26/13 12:27 PM ET)
We got home from Hawaii last night. I was fine, but my husband was sick. He never gets sick, and we think it was one of the 2 things he ate that I did not. Anyway, he is much better, but not his normal self. He got better after he got rid of his lunch. Poor guy.
The flight was "a bit bumpy" as well. We watched movies on our dig-e-players and that helped pass the time. The flight was over 5 hours and that is not bad, but after a while, you want to get up and walk around. Those tiny bathrooms are something else. No, you can't turn around in them.
We landed and came home via taxi. Then we went to pick up the Dachshunds. Those 2 were the happiest dogs on earth last night. We thanked the people who watched them for us and came home. We paid them nicely for taking such good care of the dogs. Then we took them home and they both got a bath. By this time it was well after 11pm, pacific time. We were used to Island time, 3 hours difference, so it would be only 8pm in Hawaii. We had not slept well the night before and we were so tired. We zonked out. The dogs were sound asleep as well.
Today I still feel the rocking of the ship and the movement of the plane.
I will take pictures of all the fabrics we bought in Hilo sometime today and add it to this post.

Currently working on a boys quilt. Sized 40 x 40 inches. It has chickens, chicken eggs, cows, fish, sea life, afield with water, Dachshunds, mini sailboats, and many colorful other fabrics. The blocks are a 4 x 4 finished size, so many of them are needed.
This my 4th quilt in 7 months.

Sorry your hubby was sick! And I BET you had some happy dogs!

The extremely long flight is the reason I haven't been to Hawaii yet. I am on the East coast so for me even California is too much time on a plane!

I am so excited to see your pictures! Get some rest, then get those fingers ready for some story and picture sharing!

We are talking of going back in a few years, if we can afford it. We would fly into the airport near Nawilwili on the island of Kauai, and not Honolulu. We would stay on that island. It is much more laid back and relaxed. A vacation should not be hurry-hurry, but relaxation and this is what we liked about the last island. It was busier on Friday, as we were told it comes alive on Friday. I guess Mon-Thursday are laid back days.

Honolulu is more like a semi busy city and this was not want we wanted. It was also hot and muggy and we are NOT used to humidity here in the Pacific Northwest. It is hot, then rains, then gets sunny and hot there. In Lihue, on Thrusday it was a hot 89 degrees with a delightful breeze. Then it coolded down after a couple of hours and was around 81 with a strong trade wind and we loved it. It is also very green there and the trees are different, but it felt like home to us. I hated to leave there. I felt so at home.

We are still feeling the rocking of the ship today. I think last time it took me several days to get over that constant movement feeling.

I don't do boats. Of any kind. Or any size. Ever.

I agree with the relaxed no rush to do anything kind of vacation. When I go somewhere I don't want to do anything at all but eat sleep read.

I am used to heat and humidity, I LOVE it when it's scorching hot, but the humidity does bother me.

Sounds like such a beautiful place! If it wasn't so far I'd be so tempted to go!

Cat- if you can make it to San Francisco, you can stay with me and rest up by fabric shopping! We also have great bookstores and food here. Breathtaking scenery. When you're feeling good again, you get on a plane and make the 2nd leg to Kuaii. Then you'll bliss out and stop to see me again on your way home. Easy peasy. What say you?

hmmm....sounds very tempting. Can't say hubby will be as tempted as me though.

For us Aruba is the best place to go. 4 hours on a plane and we're there! Island is tiny so it takes no time at all to get to your hotel. Water is CALM and warm. LOVE it!

Not giving up that easily! Hasn't Learn to Sew inspired you? Kuaii is heavenly and her photos will really entice you.

You know, I have a great and wonderful DH. He can take your guy to The Stray Bar with our adorable dog Bella. Watch sports, hang out with dog lovers. Play tennis? Listen to jazz in our Coed Cave where I have my PCP Pfonzie. Like books? A friend just said our house is a library. Sight see, hike hills and walk adorable Bella? Caveat- you should know they will not inscribe my urn of ashes with "Her house was spotless always". More like- "She had creative foment and piles a plenty".

Hey, if Kuaii really is too far, I can drive you to Santa Cruz for the beach portion of your vacation. Or, up to the Russian River and Wine Country. Or to Calistoga for a volcanic mud bath. Then there's south to achingly beautiful Big Sur. How about Hearst Castle- need an excuse to see that. Or, just use our hot tub. Resistance is futile!

Be sure to wear a flower in your hair.

There is nothing like a dog home-coming welcome! Love 'em up. Eager to see your trip photos. Kuaii is my fave too. Honolulu, best to get out of the city as there's lots more to the island; it's small enough for a doable car ride. The Marine Preserve on the east side of the island is a great day trip and the north side has stunning waves with, of course, surfers. Welcome home and hope the motion sensation is gradually subsiding.

When can I come??? This is what I would recommend for her as well. I was not thinking of the fabric shopping, but why not. We needed another suitcase to bring home all the fabric I bought in Hilo. We had to really cram our suitcases to get it all in. DH insisted on so much fabric, so he is a keeper for sure.

CAt, plan a trip to SF and then Hawaii and you CAN do it.
