My son needs pajamas for camp, and I just happen to have a girls' pajama pattern that should fit in the chest and waist (will have to make them longer, but I know how to do that). Are there any crotch differences that need to be made? Should I just go to Hancock Fabrics and pick up a unisex pattern instead?

My husband has a pj bottom that has a faux lapped zipper. There is no zipper, of course. The whole area looks like you could put a zipper in, but there is a snap because the opening is so long.
The elastic does not open at the top. It is completely around. It's just a hole for nighttime convenience.

You may want to add an attached a fold back placket area for the "lap".

You might want to make a little fly opening, but otherwise the important thing is if he's older than two make sure he doesn't see the pattern envelope.

I'll definitely keep the pattern envelope under cover if I use it. The more I think about it, the more likely I am to go to Hancock Fabrics this week and pick up a unisex pajama pattern (so I have everyone covered next time this comes up). My daughter's pattern is a button front, but my son prefers a pullover, so unless I just make pants and buy a pack of underwear t-shirts (which in itself sounds like a sensible idea, come to think of it), I'll probably want to get a different pattern anyway. Thanks for the advice, though. I wouldn't have thought to make a fly opening.
