I have a new sewing room, or am rather moving it to a new room. The position is on the southeast side of the house, which means there is a lot of sun in the morning and through part of the day. Would anyone have suggestions as to a good colour to paint it? Right now it is a boring biscuit shade, or beige. I was thinking of a very pale apple green; but can't really decide.

Paint one wall and see if you like it. A cool color sounds nice with all that light.

Actually, there is quite a large sample paint of the green in question. It does look nice, but I am not sure if there would be enough light in the evening with a green paint. A yellow is pretty, but I feel would be too warm in there. Good suggestion, though. Perhaps a larger sample would tell me.

My last sewing room was a pale green. I loved it even though it was on the north side of the house and got very little direct light it was a pleasant color.

I love my east facing sewing room to be ivory, as the light stays true all day and it's always bright and easy to see what you're doing. There are no color undertones from the walls to influence the look of your fabrics and thread. All the decorations on your walls, rather it be art or thread racks, etc., pop on the light walls. Ivory (aka cream) has a yellow undertone which makes it warm, yet lets in ALL the light you can get! Also, the room looks bigger. But if you think beige is boring you might not like it.

Color is such a personal thing (imho). My sewing room is a shade of white, but with all my dark sewing furniture, very necessary. I also agree with Sewlibra that everything else pops against it. I personally love the brightness for working/sewing in.

I am trying to decide how to outfit my new sewing room too! The wall color is "glazed pear," (one of those artistic expressions for cream LOL). It is a non-pink off-white. BUT, the first sewing room I had was pale green, and I got a lot done in there! Then I had to relocate it to the basement with mixed results...to brighten it up and make me concentrate I painted the upper part of the walls carrot color...haven't really had a sewing life for the past 8 years or so....go us!
I LOVE the craft room furniture that Martha Stewart offers in apple green, but none of the furniture marketed for crafts/sewing seems practical for me....kitchen base cabinets might be ideal but I am going to be a minimalist for now and work with what I have.
I just blogged about my kind of indecisiveness yesterday :).

Wow! That is quite a blog. The links to Martha's Crafts-room are nice; I have not paid any attention to Martha Stewart for years now. She always did have some great ideas, although I have been rather disappointed in some of her products in the past. You have an ideal situation though to replicate her style. That green is her favourite colour, I remember. It is pretty; the green I have in mind is called 'Appleblossom' by Benjamin Moore Paints.
My situation calls for new paint because the previous owners children knocked a hole in the wall and stained some of the walls with paint and crayon. Naturally, they need a new coat of whatever colour I decide on!
A lot of my house is in neutral tones, so I wanted something a bit different for the sewing/spare room.

I do indeed like cream, but so much of the house is in that colour, I wanted a different room. I might have to stick with it though!

Try the color you have chosen, and you can always paint over it if you don't like it. That's the great thing about paint. I just went through the same thing, with having all ivory walls and wanting a change. Painted the whole dining room, mantel, and art niches. After two months of miserably hating it except the mantel, I spent three days re-painting with two coats of exactly what it was before.
Good luck!
