I used a pink one to mark a dot on my dark blue sky fabric for embroidery placement luckily even though I thought these would disappear when ironed I was conservative and just did tiny dots. When I ironed them they turned white. Lucky they are small enough to blend into the background as the fabric has silver sparkles in it. Also the steam was on for the iron don't know if that made a difference or not. I know test test test. Think I'm stick to chalk pencils.

Any suggestions on quilting the stairs:

Mine looks pretty similar as I used the same color palette. I've been working on this on and off for about 4 or 5 years now. First time I actually picked up a ufo and finished it or soon to finish it I should say.

Thanks for the warning on the frixon pen - I am always pretty careful about which marking pen or pencil I use but ocassionally I have had a disappearing ink not disappear. Cute placemat!

Wolf the white lines do wash out.

I tested my frixion pens on the batik background fabric on my sprouts quilt and it left a white line too. I decided not to use it, I have heard that batiks can be picky about marking pens and I didn't want to chance it!

I LOVE!!! your quilt! It came out so awesome!

I think you should quilt the stairway to look like a stairway, along the outer edges of the big blocks. Are they 9 patches?
Love the cats, they look so cool!

I just read somewhere this morning (on an old blog comment) that a mark with a frixon pen removed the dye on a dark fabric. Sounds like that might be what happened to you. I have those pens, and have used them successfully. But I am so leery of all markers that I am very very careful where I use them. Thanks so much for letting us know!

This won't be washed though Cat. But considering the receiver it probably will be. Oh well at least they are all dark colors lol. Cat that's not my quilt just a picture of the pattern online. HOPEFULLY tonight I will take some pictures. And will post mine.

For the stairs, I would use a heavier black thread to outline the steps. The rest of the stair area, I think I'd SID it to keep it hard-edge looking, if that makes any sense...

Nice design!
