I was out at the Janome shop and saw this great machine -

http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/Machines/Specialty/Classmate_S-750

The online pics just do not do this machine justice - it has a base like the old machines - that screws into any old singer desk!

It has a drop in bobbin and some zz stitches - it would be a great additional machine for folks who have a nice ss singer but also want some of the convenient stitches of a more modern machine - Im not sure why janome does not have a better pic and advertise this machine more. It seems like a great idea to me.

It seems like if janome had a pic that showed the base of the machine online - more people would understand what this machine was intended for - the way they advertise it -- it just looks like another mechanical machine.

But, it is so much better than that!

The model you have pictured is the Classmate S-950, which has a vertical bobbin.

Here is a picture of the Classmate S-750 that you have a link to, which has a drop-in bobbin:

Both look super sturdy! Great options for a no-nonsense machine and being able to re-purpose a vintage cabinet.

Whoops - I thought the pics looked diff!

So they make TWO machines that can be put in a desk, one of each style bobbin? Woah. It seems like these would be so much more popular.

It does seem like they'd be more popular to me too--the cabinets are ideal, attractive and easy to fine in a range of sizes--all built well. Unless I'm thinking of the treadle model, I don't think these are new but have never heard from anyone who has one...

Both descriptions say they fit "flatbed school cabinetry." Is it certain that that's the same as the old Singer and/or Kenmore sewing tables?

Considering the number of empty tables now available thru Craigslist, etc., it really would be brilliant to be able to pop in a new machine and have it fit.

Here is a pic of the machine I tried to talk picutre - showing both a top loading bobbin and the bottom of the machine - I wish they had a better pic of the bottom of the machine on the website

Here is an image from the instruction manual.

See?

I have no way of knowing it fits in singer desks - only that this dealer said they did - and he has answered so many of my really intense questions correctly in the past. Im guessing he is not misinformed this time - but he could be.

I edited this b/c I was b++chy and did not intend to be. Sorry about that. I was less than clear in my post - I trust the guy to be right - but, he could be wrong. Other than that information I have no other information to prove this information right or wrong.

I have read some janome information and have thought it was also less than clear. I think it is totally possible they have made these machines - and neglected to really advertise them well.

After all - I remember when Juki was advertising their "box feed" as some distinctive feature and I pointed out that quite a few cheap singers advertise they have box feed as well.

I put new in quotes because I did not mean a new model as much as contemporary.

I thought we were agreeing with you and our posts were only to add to the thread. Did I post something to offend you? Sorry.
