The red headed Diva had spinal fusion surgery last Thursday and I have been sitting bedside with her in the PICU since then. Well, not really bedSIDE as the PICU is in temporary digs until July and her bed is cockeyed in the room so I am technically sitting behind the head of the bed.

Surgery went well; she has had a couple of set backs with her breathing, but is doing much better. We are hoping to leave the PICU soon but will still be in the hospital several more days.

Meanwhile, I really really miss my machines. I was working in a project for her: a raglan jacket with a removable collar for her drooling habit and zippers down the underarms of the sleeves to make it easier to get her and out. I didn't get to to finish it before we left for the hospital.

I miss sewing
Miss my bed
Miss real towels -- I appreciate the Ronald McDonald room and being able to shower but the towels are skimpy.
Miss my thermostat
Miss my bed
I miss my dh and kids. Dh comes to visit daily but he is home caring for the other two
I miss my sewing corner. I am just happy there
Did I mention that I miss my bed?

DD is getting phenomenal care and I am grateful but I want to go home now.

Thanks for listening.

Would it help (or not help) to be reading a bunch of sewing books?

Oh I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you will be going home soon. There really is no place like home.

And, I do hope dd is recovering well.

Dear SewPaula- We'll listen with warm hearts, so keep sayin'. Wishing you and your red-headed Diva a solid and swift recovery so you can get her home soon.

I recently spent a hospital stint and found any little hand sewing was helpful. I made a stuffed animal, sewed on buttons, hand embroidered buttonholes, basted and so on. You may be in too deep right now to pull that together, but on your return home it's a way to squeeze in some sewing.

Some other practical things that worked for me- have DH bring your pillow, blankie, favorite socks and slippers. I also brought a microwavable neck pillow and used the family kitchen to warm it. Under my pillow, it was very comforting.

PS I have a red head with Diva-ish tendencies. Aren't they wonderful!

Lots of hugs and best wishes to both of you!!! This is a stressful time and you are allowed, nay, encouraged to share your feelings. Hang in there.
