I am a meeting planner who received these for our promotional bags for our annual conference. Out of 180, 40 of these (2 boxes of 20) had these stains all over the embroidered area, within the hoop. Vendor says Fedex must have dirtied them, but box was intact, tape was intact, and all of the bags within the box had it, regardless of where it was in the stack. Housekeeping here at the hotel tried 4 different chemicals to get it out, it wouldn't budge. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Please see the photos for the stains: Links: http://imgur.com/ftRN8fD http://imgur.com/8cwwZCT

Even if Fedex did dirty them, the shipment was no doubt insured and you should insist they take it up with Fedex. Fedex and UPS both will mark "damaged" on their notes if the box appears to have been damaged or tampered. It might be the vendor overprinted on a stained item.

Whoa...

Sounds like FedEx wasn't the prob.

I'd be raising a fuss with the vendor some more.

If I thought it was sewing machine oil or grease (it could be or might not be) and my convention or meeting was in the same or next day, and so no time for my purchasing department to handle it for me, and return all, and get replacements, and if my name was going to be "toast" and no promotion for me for a long time because of it, or "off with my head" over it, at my company, then if I had a good washing machine at my house, I might just toss them all in there (or at least just one for a test) with just real laundry detergent and lots of luke warm (not hot) water. As sounds like you have not even tried that yet. Just since I think that (laundry detergent) often gets rid of sewing machine oil off cotton fabric.

Since you are at a hotel now though instead, and away from your house though, sounds like a convention going on there right now, and you got about zero extra time. And maybe no car even. But, possibly emergency taxi run, to the nearest 24 hour laundry mat , maybe if desperation calls for it. They might shrink up a bit, or come out a bit wrinkled out of the clothes dryer, but those marks might come out too. I think at least worth a try maybe.

Heat sets stains though, so nothing should go though a hot clothes dryer, if still stained at all. You could try that maybe?

If housekeeping has tried 4 different chemicals??? Wet or dry cleaning? Washer and dryer most likely set them. Some dry cleaning will set them.
If a good solvent and BeauT's advice have both been tried, I think you may be out of options.
It looks like either a grease stain or smudged ink from the photos.
So sorry this happened during stress of a convention. I hope the vendor eventually makes good. Did you send him the photo? He might then realize they did not get dirty from a Fedex delivery problem.

I have never had a stain that did not come out when I rubbed said stain with original formula Pine Sol, full strength. Yes, full strength onto the dry fabric. I rub it into the stain if possible and then run cool water over it to see if the stain is lifting. If no, put on more Pine Sol and rub a little more. Then put it in the washer with regular detergent. And yes, it does stink of Pine Sol while washing but the smell goes away once it's been dried. To date, 30 years or so, I've never had the color of the fabric be affected and the stain has always come out. My laundry room is NEVER without it. Stain removal is the only thing I use this cleaner for (I can't stand the smell). BTW, use gloves while applying because it is strong and makes my hands feel very dry (and smell like Pine Sol). I discovered it as a last resort when a newly made turtleneck got cheese fondue sauce on the front of it (on the 1st wearing, no less). I washed and dried it a gazillion times with every stain removing product I could think of and nothing worked. A friend of mine recommended Pine Sol and even though the stain had been dried in a half a dozen times, it took it out. I'm embarrassed to tell you I still have the turtleneck.

My all time favorite to get stains out is Didi Seven, one could buy a tube at Safeway in my neck of the woods,I didn't check lately.I followed the instructions and soaked the stained item in a cold water Didi Seven solution. Most of the time I didn't have to wash it in the washer after soaking, but I did to get the smell out.

A friend's DD washed and dried her blouses and her dad's good shirts with a lipstick in the dryer. The mess on his shirts upset the dad so much he was beside himself.(His wife was my friend, she died that year). I told him to soak the lipstick stained clothes in the cold water Didi Seven solution for a few hours, after he read the instruction sheet.

He called back and screamed, the stains are worse than ever now, much larger and the water is red too.I told him don't worry.Rinse the clothes in cold water, then wash everything in the washer with normal laundry detergent and warm or hot water. The clothes came out of the washer without stains !

If the bags are cotton and the embroidery thread is not colorfast,I would try another product I have and like,Pink Solution,it doesn't smell offensive.I got stains out of a friend's off white carpet the carpet cleaners didn't get out.I just followed the instructions. It's an all purpose cleaner,I even soak lamp shades in a cold water solution, then rinse them with a cold water hose outside.

The stains in the picture look like mold to me,the bags may have been damp,if all the stains look the same.Mold is almost impossible to get out of fabric, depending on the fiber.I would return the bags to the seller and ask for a full refund ! ! Then visit a store and buy plain bags or even with store logos,if there is no time to embroider logos on new bags.

Every time someone gave me a free bag,I was glad to get a bag with goodies inside.I never paid attention to the logo on the bag, unless it was a cute or funny logo.

Test just one bag...hopefully what housekeeping tried did not set the stains.

If it is oily, acetone. If it is rust, wink. If it neither of the above, oxy clean soaks (soak, rinse soak again).

Otherwise, I would send them all back for a refund.

Looking at the picture with the stain again,I can't see clearly if the black letters in the logo are embroidered or printed on.If it's printed on,99% Isopropyl alcohol takes off ink,or depending on the fabric ammonia might work too, depending on the ink.I know 99% Isopropyl alcohol works on felt pens and indigo ink.

Maybe the OP has found a solution, she only posted once.
