Maybe I'm the only reported case? (Moderated by Deepika, EleanorSews)

I just ordered some of Lynn Rowe's fave rulers. Maybe it's all her fault?!?. Since I'm a novice quilter, I had never heard of the Quilter's Slidelock. Nonetheless, I simply had to have it and ordered the Arctic Blue. Will report back once I get my package. I love getting prezzies in the mail. This simple purchase made me almost giddy and led me to wonder . . .
Has anyone yet coined NAD? Notions Addictive Disorder? I want a Scallop and Vine tool that Cat mentioned, even though I may not need it for a decade or so. Oh well, could be I'm the sole case of NAD? Maybe it's an extremely rare genetic thing. I have my bubby's sewing notions and now some from mom. I'd hardly know where to start inventorying my own tools for measuring, cutting, pinning, gluing, plus sewing machine feet and that's not to mention the containers for all this stuff.
So that's 3 cases. I suspect it's under reported. What do you say? And what's your favorite new-to-you notion? Not sayin' you have a disorder or anything.

I'm a huge fan of the slidelock rulers too. They really save a lot of time when cutting pieces; I can go a lot faster since I don't worry about the rulers slipping.
And I have many, many tools of all kinds, and multiples of my favorites. I, too, am an accessory junkie.

Sorry, Wendy, but I am patient zero when it comes to NAD. I am a pre-novice quilter, and yet I have so many notions. Same with embroidery (machine-not so much a novice by hand), and probably have at least some version of every sewing notion known to humankind. And I use the vast majority of them. I get pleasure out of reorganizing my stuff so I can think of when I last used something or what I can use it for next, even if it isn't what it was designed for. I have every Singer foot I could use for my machines, pins, tapes, cutters, scissors, pattern paper, carbon paper...my newest notion-fluorescent tape for my plastic rulers to mark often used measurements.
As far as inventory: I spent a few hours two weekends ago sorting all my stuff into defined groups on Evernote. I set up subtitles for interfacings, stabilizers, and all my other supplies, so now when I go shopping I don't unintentionally buy duplicates. I use Dropbox for my fabrics-usually a picture of the fabric and fabric care instructions. Both Evernote and Dropbox are available on my phone, which is where I really need them when I'm out shopping. My patterns are here on PR, also available on my phone. The only thing I haven't inventoried is thread.

You hit a nerve- Accessory Junkie! It sounds more down and dirty and real compared to the kinda wimpy NAD. Multiples, yep, a must. If I'm 3 feet away from my sewing set up, I need my ironing set up and a few feet more accounts for my cutting table set up. Then there's my daily travel kit that gets bulked up for over night travels. Junkie it is! Gee thanks.
I mean I neeeeed all those different kinds of pins. And pin cushions. Don't you?
PS So, was it Lynn Rowe who turned you on to the Slidelock "rulers"? They were news to me. I'm such a tortoise and here's hoping they will up my game.

Do you make home visits? You should. Wait for our belated rainy season to be over here in San Francisco. Should be right about when the fabulous Prom Dress for your DD is on the dance floor. I'd be thrilled to have someone hold my hand while I try to inventory my notions midden. I haven't used either Evernote, or Dropbox or organized my patterns here on PR. You could have a nice several week visit here. I'll keep you entertained.

As a matter of fact, just yesterday I ordered a Kwik Klip for fastening safety pins on quilt sandwiches. But, somehow, I have a sneaking suspicion that there's already one hiding around here somewhere!

Sewing stuff is the ONLY thing I have organized. The rest of my home (and life) is a disorganized mess.
One day I may get out your way...I'll come prepared to work!

I cannot knit a cord, and I am at least an intermediate knitter.
But earlier today I did keep from buying a knitting mill to make cords Forget what I would ever need a cord for, or why I even tried for awhile to make them.
Hmm, it could be nice to have around, wouldn't it? Nah, I don't buy/collect/ keep, etc. notions.

I don't know that I have chronic NAD, but I am highly suggestive. I'm not a quilter but think I need to check out that ruler thing...maybe it has non-quilting uses.....
It is also true that some notions MUST be owned in quantity. Tape measures have a way of hiding so you must have extras....scissors are self-explanatory, by use...I could go on....and on...

NAD!!! With a new diagnosis to join SMAD & THRAD & PAD & FAD, I'm more Disordered than I ever realized.
I blame NAD on a 3 level home & a sensible mind. Run down 2 flights of stairs to get a seam ripper? Ridiculous!
