I bought a new machine a couple of years ago and my friend was all excited that she would buy my old one. BUT she had no money right now.
So I said fine, I would keep it for her.
It was taking a long time and I also had a brand new bike, Still had the tags on it.
Her husband is an electrician, and so I said if he does the work that I need we could work a trade.
He agreed, and I did ask him more than once to make sure it wasn't just my friend ( his wife) talking.

So the bike and machine went to their house and she said that she would not use either until the electric was done.

I waited and waited and finally my husband insisted on getting his bike back, but the sewing machine was still at their house.

She sold her machine, and is now using mine, but NO payment. she asked how much I wanted today and when I told her she said that she could get a brand new one for a 1/3 of what I want. Walmart compared to Janome.
Do I go and take it back?
Then what?

Oh my! Not a good situation to be in. What if you set a definite time like I would like to be paid in full by April 30th or I want my machine back. ... it is a wonder she did not pay you the $$ she sold her sm for, that is bugging me. .......Anyway worth a try a definite date then if you have to take it back take it back. .... hope this helps a little.

How important is the friendship to you? If you feel that keeping your friend is worth more than the value of the machine, forget about it, and consider it a gift. If not, go get the machine, and let the chips fall where they may.

If it were me, I'd go get the machine. I'd have a hard time maintaining a friendship if something like that had gone on.

Me? I'd be over there getting my machine back before sundown.
To be blunt, I'd say they're a couple of chiselers and I'd not make any deals with them ever again.

So, what did she do with the money for her old machine!

I'd walk right over to pick it up, do not leave without--fudge a little and say my SIL or friend has the cash to buy it now-I won't wait any longer. Period. If she gets huffy, stand your ground. Friends who use don't deserve your loyalty and patience.

Your "friend" is not really your friend or she would have made arrangements to either pay for the machine, or make sure her husband completed his part of the barter.

Tell her to gather up all the accessories that came with the machine because you are coming to pick it up as you need it for a back-up machine and she can buy another at WalMart, Craig's List, EBay or the funny pages.

I'd be getting my machine back. She is not treating you well at all. You can then wait for a worthy person to sell or gift it too (not one that tries to cheat and manipulate you).

This is such a sad situation. You take someone's word and then they let you down without any sign of remorse.

I think you know what you want to do. Your husband took the bike back. Tell her you need the money now or you are taking the machine back. Time is up.

It does sound like you did not clearly discuss the value of the machine or the electrician's time. Like if the machine is $500 how many hours of work would you get in exchange? If that discussion did not happen there was going to be trouble either way.

This will be ugly either way. Will the machine be in the same condition as when you gave it to her? If not, then what will you do?

Try to keep things civil and add it to the list of life lessons.

Good luck and let us know how this goes. We will be here to support you.

Yes ! I would run,or drive over there today,or as soon as possible without telling her I'm coming.Knock on her door and say hello I need my machine right now. Then say "goodby friend".

Who needs unreliable friends ? I rather stay all by myself than have a friend like her.

You don't have to explain anything to her, even if she tries to make you feel guilty.

"Oh you can get a brand new machine at one third the cost at Wal-Mart? How wonderful you should go ahead and buy that, what a great deal! I'll be over tonight to get my machine so it won't be in the way of the new one. "

Go get it. now.
