I've been compiling a list of indie pattern companies and their size ranges, along with noting things like cups size or figure considerations used in drafting patterns. As you can imagine, there is a wide variation in the sizing used. Here's the list so far, feel free to add more information:

April Rhodes
Sizes XS (32” bust) to XXL (45” bust)

Blue Ginger Doll Patterns
Drafted to D cup
Sizes 4 (30.5” bust) to 18 (44” bust) …”coming soon” to size 24 (50” bust)

By Hand London
Sizes 2 (32” bust) to 16 (45” bust)

Colette Patterns
Drafted to C cup
Sizes 0 (33” bust) to 18 (46” bust)…some to size 26 (54” bust)

Deer and Doe
Drafted for an hourglass shape – C/D cup
Sizes 34 (31 ½” bust) to 46 (41” bust)

Grainline Studio
Sizes 0 (32” bust) to 18 (44” bust)

In-House Patterns
Drafted to D cup
Sizes 0 (32” bust) to 16 (42” bust)

Lolita Patterns
Sizes 2 (32” bust) to 24 (54” bust)
Uses different pattern blocks for smaller and larger sizes)

Named Patterns
Sizes 0 (30” bust) to 14 (41” bust)

Petite Plus
Drafted for narrow shoulders, D cup, rounded tummy, curves
Sizes 14 (40” bust) to 24 (50” bust) – size 12 available in some patterns

SBCC
Sizes 00 (30” bust) to 28W (54” bust)
Drafted for more petite women, but can be lengthened

Sewaholic Pattens
Drafted to B cup and pear shaped figure
Sizes 0 (30” bust) to 16 (41” bust)

Victory Patterns
Sizes 2 (33” bust) to 16 (44 1/2” bust)

Thanks both of you. I wish there was a place on the website where this information could be stored, like under Shop Patterns or Help or Knowledge Base.

There were a few surprises for me in compiling this list. I am personally a RTW 18/20 with a 44-45" DD cup bust.

I think I assumed that most contemporary styled brands would be only for skinnier types (I knew the retro-inspired Collette and Blue Ginger Doll were not, but made this assumption about many of the others).

Named Patterns fits that assumption.

But look at Victory Patterns and By Hand London...their size 16 is a typical RTW 18 or so.

On the other hand, hello Deer and Doe...if you're truly designing for an hourglass figure, how about going up a few more sizes?

I didn't include Salme on my original list...I'll add that information soon, but it was a big disappointment to me that the line didn't go a little larger. I consider Salme's designs to be in a similar vein to Grainline Studios and In-House Patterns, both of which run a little larger. I would need to draft up somewhat for In-House, but at least would be working with a D cup drafted pattern.

And Sewaholic...I would have never guessed by the styles that they only drafted on a B cup.

Liz, you may want to add that Sewaholic patterns are drafted for a pear shaped figure. This is a major part of her description of her line.

Thanks, marec, I've added it. I've tried to dig up this information on all these designers. Some designers publish it right on their web sites, but others do not.

A few more notes to add... SBCC uses a different block for their plus sized patterns. I've been meaning to find out what cup size Betsy drafts for (it seems like most of us can go by full bust and not do an FBA in the larger sizes).

Another company to add:
HotPatterns run from size 6-26 (32" bust - 52" bust).

This is a great idea!

I really am confused sometimes about what size to buy in the Indie patterns, and as a result don't bother. Cup size matters, but I had no idea that some of them are geared to a certain type of body-shape too.

Thank you for creating a list!
