I can't change the stitch length on my Bernina 2000DE! The handwheel won't turn by hand either. The other knobs work fine. The serger also sounds rough, like it's working too hard, but the stitches look fine. It's probably 15 yrs old and this is the first trouble I've had with it (love this machine!!). I plan to clean it good tomorrow and if that doesn't help, I guess it's off to the dealer (nearest one is 80 miles away). Any suggestions?

Well, things don't work and run smooth forever with no internal lubrication and a whole 15 years like that, seems like an amazing long run to me

Oh come on, beauturbo! I never said I didn't keep it clean & oiled. It's been very well cared-for! I was just hoping to find a big clump of thread that had snuck inside there and had something blocked. I've taken the bottom off and I don't see anything but a little normal lint. Any other suggestions would be appreciated !

Is the blade dull? Did it slip down out of position?Ttat happens sometimes.
If it was having difficulty cutting, that would make it labor.
Try chaining off with no fabric.

Well when two separate and pretty much unrelated things no longer will move, and your motor sounds like laboring, lack of lubrication does come to mind. But since you got the bottom off, oil every metal to metal moving bit in it, and grease all the ball joints, if that really still does not let your fly wheel and stitch length move again, then that's not it, but at least you know it's lubricated. If you want to know if your fly wheel won't move because of the belt or motor, take the belt off, and see if the motor runs any better, not attached to the rest of the machine.

Just take it in for service. It's long over due.

I agreed with PAJ, take it in for service as it is well due for one! And you will then have peace of mind!

I think take it in too now. Hey, what's driving a teeny tiny 160 mile round trip, just because you are totally helpless and can't figure out how to do something yourself?

It's been two years since the serger has been serviced (not 15!), so I guess it's time to take it again. I was just hoping someone would have a quick, easy solution.
I just hate taking two days off to take it to the "spa" for repairs--can't get it worked on the day I take it since someone outside the shop does the work, so two 160 mile trips. It's a great machine, so I guess it'll be worth it.

I think it really just must be stuck and sticky, and freezing up, particular on the stitch length not working anymore, as not much to go wrong or change or actually break at all inside an overlocker, but man, two 160 mile round trips would be a whole lot of miles! Maybe you could mail it to them?
