just letters and such (Moderated by Pyrose)
Posted on: 6/15/14 8:54 AM ET
So I bought a font where each letter is its own file. I do not have any embroidery software, and added each letter just on the machine. I have a Dreamweaver.
It took awhile, but I figured it out. Then when I went to stitch I didn't realize they would stitch in the order I added. What a bummer, I had to change threads a lot.
So what kind of basic software does one use just to this? Anything free?

You should be able to combine the letters into a single embroidery on your machine, if the dream weavers are similar to Quattro on the embroidery.
I'm not sure but I thought there was colour order as well. But software wise that's free - i think there was stitch era universal is the only free one that comes to mind

Bernina has free software on its site.

Does your Dreamweaver have Embroidery edit? In that screen a lot of the Brother machines have some basic editing functions. You might have been able to change the sewing order from there although you would have had to start over.

Yes, I added the letters in Embroidery Edit. What I found difficult was figuring out which letters were which. I added all of them to the drive first, then since they were all a bit swirly I just added them to the project, and then put each one in the right place. That was when I realized each letter had to be put in the project in order, the manual even says that.
But at least I figured out how to do that. There's so much to learn.

I'll take a look at the Bernina site, but I don't know if you can use it with a Brother machine. Thanks, I'll see what they have.

Thanks Aslinnd and Sherri, I'll check those out. I hadn't even seen the free trial for the Brother software, and I was looking for it.

In most cases the software does not need to be of the same brand as the machine.
I don't believe Stitch Era Universal is offered (or maybe just not supported) anymore as a free program.

I buy lots of fonts and many people on the site use Sew What Pro. It's not free, but not that expensive, and there is a 30 day free trial.Sew What Pro

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.
