I've been using Mettler silk finish thread as my practice thread today to try out all the great stitches. I've noticed that there is tons of lint! Most of what I see is above the needle as it feeds down from the spool.
I'm guessing this is probably not a good thread to use. What do you folks recommend as a good everyday stitching thread? Also, even though i'm not ready to embroider, what is your favorite brand of embroidery thread too?
Thanks!!!!

Floriana, Robison Anton, Arifil (sp). These seem to work well in a Pfaff machine. The only one I was cautioned about was Coats & Clark,

Just be sure to clean your machine often when using what you have.

I have found Mettler silk finish very linty as well. For cotton thread my favorite is Aurifil, followed by Superior Masterpiece. For polyester my favorite is Superior Sew Fine and Mettler Metrosene. My two favorite embroidery threads are Isacord and Floriani, I use them both. My Creative Performance, and now my Creative Sensation, is not picky about thread. I have used multiple brands for both sewing and embroidery without a problem.

Thanks for the thread recommendation. I'll be sure to buy good quality thread.

I bought more thread today but have to admit I believe I didn't thread her properly. I retreaded and sewed several stitch patterns and didn't have near as much lint buildup. I admit to user error! :-D

Yes Mettler is pretty good thread. I was surprised by your lint post.

I do love Metrosene in all my machines, but lately I am in love with So Fine #50 from Superior Threads. I think it will transition into my go to thread for sewing and for quilting very soon. No issues with regular sewing or free motion.

Will you be piecing with it as well? What I want to know is will it be your thread for your entire quilt?

Currently working on a boys quilt. Sized 40 x 40 inches. It has chickens, chicken eggs, cows, fish, sea life, afield with water, Dachshunds, mini sailboats, and many colorful other fabrics. The blocks are a 4 x 4 finished size, so many of them are needed.
This my 4th quilt in 7 months.

Maderia, RA and Sulky have been my main threads and I do not have excess lint build-up in the machines.

Any sewing or embroidery machine that has a drop-in bobbin will collect more fuzz that the vertical bobbins.

Black is the only color embroidery thread that has been an issue and that was with Sulky and CC shredding.

When doing machine embroidery, be sure to use machine embroidery bobbin thread in the correct weight for your machine. It is not the same as the top thread for the purpose of less build-up and to pull the top thread slightly to the bottom and not a balanced stitch as is the goal when sewing.
ME bobbin thread weight should be addressed in the manual for your machine as well as needle selections.

Embroidery Library's website has a chart for selecting stabilizer for machine embroidery as well as other tutorials and tips.
